So here is my fucked up situation:

I go to the College,  I finish next year. But im sick and tired of going there. I wake up each morning and i don't want to go at school because i hate all my classes. If I continue in college i will have to do at least 4 more years in university to have a good job, and this will be to much for me and my brain.

So im here sitting at home, thinking about what i will do in my life, because after all, we all live for that. Going at school, get a good job so we can buy a house and feed our family. And i think, i think and i think... And it scares me, because I don't want my parents to do be disappointed, school is very important for them, and they really want me to go to university and get a BIG diploma etc.

And this is where it all change. Electrician.... I'm thinking about that for a while now. I only need to do, what we call here, a DEP which is Professional Study Diploma. It's about one year (full time). The salary is good (20$ + per hrs easy). I'm interested in that job, but i really don't know how to announce this to my parents.

But then another problems comes... My bro. He also want to do Electrician, we talked alot, and we are thinking about both studying electricity and then we would open a small business or something.

It seems like everything would be perfect... or not.  Would it work? How to announce this to my parents?

Im in a point in my life where i really don't know where i'm going.

sry if my english is bad, i wrote this really fast and most of you know that im not perfect in english

I have no doubt that your parent should and will support you in any decision you make...it's your life after all so do it for you.

Electrical engineering, Canada needs them, and the pay is excellent.

At this point in the economic development of North America, I really cant recommend going into any sort of manual labor field, as a lot of that is going to be totally reworked in the next decade or so.

Remember, the harder the stuff is to learn, the less competition you have in the job market.

Remember, what seems easy now will usually make things much harder ten years from now.

Stay in school! Sure you could get a job now that seems to have good pay, but you'll be stuck at that job forever without any versatility. And a few years from now you'll be making the same amount of money and realize what shit pay it is while your friends are making loads more.

Take a variety of classes and find what you like. Go to school and get a degree. It'll be worth it. You'll be able to pick and choose your job, rather than have to take what you get. Plus, with a degree there's a good possibility of promotion and being able to rise through the ranks, rather than being stuck at a low-level trade job for the rest of your life.

i am just getting ready to finish my 4th full year at college.

it sucks....not gonna lie.  no one knows what they absolutely wanna do when ya get here....and your experiences at college will make you rethink everything.

my advice.....if youre only in your first year....stick it through another semester or two...see if it gets any better. if not...no real loss. just make the best of what you can do

nevermind....i realized youre probably as old as i am,saying youre finishing.....im in the same situation as you....im joining the army. good luck to you

You are still going to need to go to college though. If you want to open your own small business you should get at least a Bachelor's in Business. I suppose you can take the PED thing and when you start work you can go to school part time. This way you'd save money for your business as well as preparing for it academically. I'm going to do something similar when I get a job, so all I can say is if you really have your heart set on it, go for it. I'd rather have a job that I was happy with and and be tight with money than having a job I hated but was rich.

You have to do what you think is best. If you get a BIG diploma because your parents want you to, you are going to spend your entire life doing things because they want you to.

yeah, they call high schools colleges, throws me off all the time.

But Andoura, I've seen dozens of kids drop out and promptly become lifelong dependents (including some in my own family), you should really educate yourself as much as possible, you'll thank yourself later, it could mean the difference between retiring at 55 and working until you die.

he speaks the truth.    like i said before. im gonna be 23 this year. finishing up college....still have no clue whats going on in my life.    ive got a great girlfriend who's been behind me 110% of it all.    the only things i know that will happen is that i will marry her and i will provide for her....nothing else is set in stone.  im actually looking into the US army, and the job they've offered me is pretty sweet.     andoura. the only thing you can do in life to ensure your own satisfaction is follow your instincts.    thats when you will find what you are happy with.

my advice would be to think about what gives you the most satisfaction, something you could apply in a career. a natural talent can be obvious like being good with numbers or having a propensity for learning, others are excellent at relating to others (empathy).

if you don't have a natural inclination or desire to continue with full time education, then don’t. have the confidence to go into a trade then reassess the situation in 4 or 5 yrs time, when you have become qualified & experienced. as long as you finish college first, then there is nothing to stop you going to university in the future. next time round you will know what you want to study, something you are really going to enjoy & also knowing that you'll have your trade to fall back on, if the degree you really want to study has tenuous employment prospects.

whatever you decide make sure you finish college first.

ok, heres my two cents:

first, have you done manual labor work a lot? do you know what kind of shape your body will be in?
if you know, and you are OK with that, then you can do it. being an electrician, as opposed to sitting behind a desk all day is hard fucking work man. you will have to work in hazardous environments and deal with whatever elements can get to you on whatever job you decide to take.

ok, next...

running your own business is hard.....and i mean fucking HARD dude.
there are WEEKS at a time that i dont get paid. not from a lack of orders, but im still starting out, so i cant charge what everyone else does. i think my roughest day, i worked 16 hours and made a whopping $2.60 an hour.
why? well i kept fucking up on a knife and it took me that much time to finish. i couldnt raise the price just cause i was being an idiot, so i took the hit.
shit like that comes up, and you either have what it takes to make it through, or you dont.

then theres the parents thing.......
do what makes you happy, cause at the end of the day, thats what its all about.
