I finally got my dual-core upgrade for my Socket 939 system. However, since I got it OEM, I need to reuse the fan that is currently in use with my 3200+. Is there any special technique or method for removing this, or any reason for concern, or anything I should be cautious of? I'm good once I have the fan and CPU disconnected and out of the box, but before that am entirely unsure of what I am doing.

The current set-up has been working two years, and is stock paste, if that is relevant information.

939? I think you need a new computer now.

You really shouldn't use two-year old thermal paste.

Worthless....

To OP,

How to change a processor: http://www.fonerbooks.com/r_cpu.htm

I use a q-tip and 99% rubbing alcohol to remove old thermal paste.

Some of us can't afford to buy a new system every year.
