No it's not, it's crappy shitty polluting power stations from the fucking 19th Century that are. You know if the energy required for all these machines was from a clean sustainable source then there wouldn't be a problem.

We need to build more nuclear plants, imo. It's the most viable option that also does jack shit to the atmosphere and thus the least likely to further cause Climate Change.

Look at the source, the electric car is only as clean as the source that charges it up.
you kill the planet faghat.
A few buckets of reusable nuclear sludge a year won't kill the planet as quickly as ten billion cubic meters of carbon dioxide a year.
'Specially if you bury it somewhere useless.

Like the Middle East. Or Central Australia.

what about all the millions of people who use computers for things other than gaming, like every buisiness, and all the servers for websites. gimme a break it's ridiculous to pin that on gamers

...so says an online news editorial. How many trees are they killing every time somebody views their content?

'Gas-guzzlers?' Thus the research into developing smaller and more efficient computers. Short of apocalypse, the industry ain't disappearing, folks.

I turn my computer off when I'm not using it, but my electicity comes from renewable hydro and wind energy anyway. Furthermore that article is stupid. One may as well target television or people who leave their lights on all day.

I imagine the electric use other then computers is far greater then that of gaming PCs and consoles.

These twits just want to blame whatever and whoever they can.

you are kidding, right ? This is not solely about what kind of energy source you use to power your computer. Rather, this is about how much energy was used to manufacture its parts, then assemble them, then ship them around the world to your home.

Your carbon footprint is bigger than you might imagine.

Schuss is right, you have take a step back from your computer and look at the bigger picture.

Yes its killing the earth, along with about 50 million other things. You know how much electricity it takes to manufacture and run the trillions of dollars of military equipment across the world? How about modern planes and cars and nuclear bomb testing from the 60's? hmm but what brings more entertainment and use to the world, weapons of mass destruction or gaming/computer equipment?

Gaming is only a tiny percentage of the huge pie of AIDS that is killing the environment. And that's why noone cares.

My parents was right, I left the door open and ended up heating the whole planet. So I guess global warming is my fault.

the problem with that statement is, that if everyone thinks like that, no one will start actually doing something about it. Instead, everyone will wave some statistics saying that his particular special interest group isn't the "real" problem, and then sit back and wait for the other guys to do something about it.

The reality is, however, that we are all part of the "real" problem. Sure, some are contributing more to the problem than others, but does that mean that we should wait for them before doing anything about it ?

I'll give you an example:

Last year, I installed a photovoltaics array on the roof of my house. It's only a couple of square meters, but it still means that from now on, I'll be able to generate all of the electric energy my household consumes on my own, without having to buy additional power from the electricity company. More importantly, I can now show these bastards and their ever-rising prices the finger.

No imagine if it were manadatory that every new house built must have a photovoltaics array on the roof. Clean, renewable energy, at an affordable price for everyone. Does that sound so bad ? Only for the big power companies, I assure you.

Wake up, people. It starts on a small scale, but it can have a big impact.

Manufacture of integrated circuits is one of the most energy intensive, polluting industrial processes there is.
Electronics, telecommunications equipment, computers, monitors etc are all horrible.
The gaming industry, which requires you to have a PC upgrade every how many years? is probably one of the biggest drivers of computer obsolescence these days.
Sorry but its true - We should just go and kill ourselves
