While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

It's just a symbol, I think it stands for formula.

(we use different symbols here)
f of x - f(x)

is basically just a function to be used on the variable x.
What he said.

Basically, X is replaced by 12 in your equation.

So you'll have:

f(x)=3(sqrt)x
f(12)=3(sqrt)12
f(12)=3 X 2 X (sqrt)3
f(12)= 6 X 1.732
f(12)= 10.392

And as mentioned by others:

That's what I was thinking.

If f(x) equals f(12), then 3√x would have to be 3√12.

Which simplified would be 6√3.
