PROBLEM!  Read #17 please

Am just about to order the following and was wondering if there is something I should possibly change in your opinion?

Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 Intel X38
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB   (with the view of using the step-up programe to move onto that 9800GX2)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB
Thermaltake ToughPower 750W
Coolermaster RC-1000 Cosmos

Adding in a heat sinc, paste, optical drives and such it comes to a total of  £814 including delivery

What would you change if anything?

Gratz

A less powerfull PSU, 750w is massive overkill, a 600w or even 550w will suit fine.

Not a thing! Maybe just a Samsung drive instead of Seagate but otherwise it seems okay..

Very nice. Though you'd be much better off with 4GB of cheaper PC6400 RAM. You'd get much better performance, especially if running Vista.

Agree, although, considering he said he would like to move onto a 9800GX2, it makes more sense to be ready to go for that.

Looks good xD

Nice rig, like that board

Does it make a difference to performance having more watts that you need on a PSU ? I thought it would be better incase you wanted to expand Graphics etc...

That was exactly my reasoning.  I knew for an 8800GT it would be more than enough but a 9800GX2 is bound to suck up more juice out of it.

Well with that considered I think you are good to go with that PSU personally.

Yeah, the only thing is 4gb of Ram if you are going for vista.

This would be a choice for 4gb of PC-8500: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … =MY-110-OC

I can't believe the price on that memory! I sound so old but...I remember back in September 2 years ago I bought my 2GB Corsair RAM for £196!

I chanced the spec around again but the problem I have is specific to one component.  The CPU.  I loaded it up got everything going and it was reading 117 on the temperature.  I checked the heat sinc, paste, and even took the thing appart and put it all together again yet I am still getting the prob.  Took this pic to see if someone can spot a blaring mistake.

I checked the voltages on the motherboard and there all normal.  I really cant work out what is wrong

Any ideas?
