He didn't impact America, he impacted teh ENTIRE world. If I remember correctly he isn't too fond of what his creation has become..

Ye i'd go with samuel colt as colt made the first proper revolvers shortly after the first proper rounds as we know them were invented, so I would compare the distribution of colts across america and the world to the distribution of AK's. As people who couldn't of had a gun before (though granted for different reasons namely lack of proper pistols before colt and lack of money before kalashnikov) could now get one relatively easily though its of course easier to get an AK than a colt now. Or something along those lines.
