What will it take for politicians to realize how insecure our border is and do actually do something about illegal immigration?

Will we have to wait until someone smuggles nukes and blows them up in LA, San Diego, Phoenix, Tuscon, El Paso, Dallas, Houston? Will we have to wait until CA, AZ, TX, etc. are so overrun with illegals that we are forced to give those states up to Mexico?

Just wondering.

Yes.

Actually, Arizona is leading the way towards the only real solution...making it NOT an immigrant friendly state by penalizing employers of illegals.  They're fleeing Arizona, most (according to some article I read) going back to Mexico.

Gay California would be last to do that, if at all, so NM, AZ, and TX can start being Mexican free...or at least they'll be able to reclaim their Home Depot parking lots back!

When an entire state has English as it's secondary language, if they speak it at all, so that all legal documents have to be translated into Spanish?

Lol never...mexicans have taken over Dallas (and dont even get me started about New Mexico ). I mean, they do good stuff, but last time I checked, we Texans swore loyalty to America and spoke English...

That's good to hear. Once I graduate from college I was planning on looking for a job in AZ.

Either that or I'll go up north to Montana or maybe even Canada

There is a bill in the California Legislature for this very idea I believe, but I may have read it wrong.  Let me see if I can find something...

Penalize employers of illegals, implement new guidelines and quotas for immigration/naturalization.  With the exception of a good amount of personnel physically guarding the border, I don't see our borders ever being "secure".  But if you take away one key motivation of illegal immigration (the ability to secure work), I think it would drastically lower the amount of illegal immigration.

"Securing" the border and stopping illegal immigration are two separate issues in my opinion, but not mutually exclusive.  The fact that a ridiculously small percentage of transport trucks, trains, and cargo bins are checked before entering the country really lets you know how serious the government is about "securing" the borders.  As soon as the failure to secure borders affects the states themselves, you will see real action.  The federal government seemingly does not care about "securing" our borders.

I wonder if that fence company from California awarded some of the border fence contract ever got around to hiring legal workers?  Gotta love politics.

Yep, I love driving by the Port of Oakland or Alameda and seeing endless acres of transportation cans that have come in off boats overseas and knowing that there's no real scanning going on.  Yeeeeeeha DHS!  But hey, at least they're keeping breast milk off of airplanes causing babies to cry more at take off and landings!

It will take a disaster before we go into serious action, unfortunately that's usually the story to politics

I've got nothing against Mexicans or Latinos, it's just when it comes to things like illegal students demanding financial aid when there are plenty of our own citizens that could use it... or when they march in the streets to demand a free pass without having to do the work other hopeful future-citizens do... that's when it pisses me off.

And since I can't fight the system by myself, I'll just have to run and live my life somewhere else

so whats wrong with securing the northern states in the canadian border?  your OP addressed security as the priority for border enforcement, but you only mentions states in the south west.  You dont realize its a lot easier for terrorists to get through the canadian side than the mexican side.

You can't trust Canadians. They've worked for years to make their accents nearly unnoticeable (except for the occasional "oot and aboot"). They've infiltrated our entertainment industry, filling our heads with their evil propaganda.

Then there's Brian Adams.

They are pure evil.

On a serious note: GS is right about the Canadian border WRT terrorist threat. However, from an economic perspective, we have to do something about the flow of illegals across the southern border, as well.
