Thats whats wrong with some people in the u.s. they seem to forget that people join the military knowing they will fight for their leaders and country.

I know where you're coming from Mitch... but really. I'm considering joining the military when I'm older, and I know full well I could go to war.

The thing is... World War II was fought to protect the world from the Nazi regime. Had the Allies surrendered, I really would bet that we'd all be speaking German and have posters of Hitler in our rooms.

What have OEF and OIF done? I recognize and in fact support Operation Enduring Freedom. When we went over there, people loved us. Then we started Iraq... I do think that Saddam was a horrid dictator and he deserved what he got. But we created a quagmire, with the three groups (Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites) killing each other because it's lawlessness. We took away forces from Afghanistan and now the Taliban is gaining power yet again in that place.

GS had something like this in his sig a few days ago, if I'm not mistaken: It's really easy for you to talk about starting wars when you aren't the one doing the killing.

I often find myself thinking about signing back up for Active Duty. Romancing the idea of getting dirty, complaining about some good and not so good MREs, lacing up my suede boots, cleaning my rifle, and on and on and on... It's in my blood, spirit, and mind.

Just the same, I am happy with my family and friends at home. The truth is I did my time and unless there is a major War, Im done.

btw the Iraqi people still love the troops...

Who are you to judge? Bush has a least worn a uniform and flown fighter jets. But i guess your good intentions of joining the service more than qualifies you.... But since you declared yourself judge here, tell me what part of WWII was romantic? The concentration camps? Flamethrowers in action captured in black and white photography? Unreliable, inadequate supplied equipment? Night bombings on British cities? Literally, waves of men cut down by machine gun fire on beaches? Japanese POW work camps? Nuclear fallout?

Hitler was pretty evil and needed to be stopped. Maybe someone was paying attention in history class and decided not to let it repeat itself. Also, Hitler at least wore a uniform. People who disguise themselves as your allies are perhaps your greatest enemy.

By your logic Bush shouldn't find war romantic until entire continents and its people are ravaged by war. Who is really the sicko here?

I'm sure he meant the idea of fighting for something you believe in. Contrary to general antiwar opinion some of our soldiers believe in what they are doing over there. Despite whatever agenda got them involved in the first place, many of them are there now protecting those who cannot protect themselves. It might not be romantic, but it damn sure is heroic.

You should only have to pull on the boots and helmet for your own family and nation, not some bullshit war half the world away.
