Is a restaurant found in the united states (maybe other countries but i think just the U.S).  They have amazing food and are famous for their desserts, especially CheeseCakes, thus the name, but there is one thing that is odd about it.  They serve you an enormous amount of food for your maindish.  I went for lunch today, my crispy chicken sandwich was about 4 times the size of Wendy's chicken sandwiches, plus a load of fries.  My dad had some asian salad or somethin of the sort and it was huge...but it was just the lunch size.  My brother and his friend had a Caesar salad before there meal as an appetizer and it was big enough by itself to split between 2 people for dinner.  Point is, they serve too much food for the maincourse, and i don't know how anyone who eats a full meal there by themselves could possibly have room for a piece of cheesecake!

Question is: why do they serve so much? Is there some strategical business move i'm missing, or is it so no man shall be left hungry after their meal?

I'm not sure WHY they serve so much but it sure makes people fat. Never been there myself, probably won't.

PS: wtf were you doing in America anyways?

It's still damn good. It makes people feel they've gotten their money's worth, thus making them want to return, thus establishing a loyal customer base.

Also, you realize, you could have asked for the half-portion for lunch, right?

I think it may have to do with our 'culture' if you will

In France (When I went there) I saw tons of people at cafes and restaurants all the time. Their portions were smaller than what you would find in the US. Thing is, breakfast/lunch/dinner/tea are all dragged out way longer. People take the time to savor their food. And research suggests that eating slower means you eat less.

In the US nobody takes the time to enjoy things... gotta get back to work for your boss for the remaining 4 hours of the work day. So just feed the masses with large amounts of food. I can eat an entire Chipotle burrito (about 1000 calories) in the span of 20 minutes. If I take longer than that, I simply won't finish it.

In Australia we have the Chessecake shop.

But it's a cake store not a restaurant.

I hate that place.  They can't make a sandwich a sandwich.  It's got basamic vinagrette, or pan seared alfalfa sprouts or mesquite grilled semen or something weird on every sandwich.

Last time, knowing this I order a grilled cheese.  My thought was that it would be hard to 'eff up a grilled cheese...

There were onions in it...ONIONS...WTF.  (tasty though)  BUT WTF???

Amazing! No waiting in line to get on the lifts and tons of snow. The snowbanks were 15-20ft high.

You are all lucky to have such awesome restaurant chains in the USA. The only things we have are fast food giants from the US. Can't you export something nice for once instead of McDonald's. Food chains in the UK are rare, there are usually lots of independent restaurants (mostly Indian and Chinese) which serve nice food, but all my friends who have been to the US brag about eating at the best places. Maybe all that food is making Americans fat, but the UK has its fair share of obese people anyway, so the Brits cant criticize.

There are fantastic places to eat in the UK, however they're all local pubs and the only way to find the best ones is to go out and explore.

I used to make an effort to find a new secluded pub for lunch every Sunday and I ended up with amazing meals some days and mediocre meals other days.

It all comes down to how much effort you're willing to put in.

Yes, pubs are quite good although the atmosphere isn't very family orientated now is it?? At least now people can't smoke in them, which makes it more appealing.

On Wednesdays, me and my friends go to eat before playing squash, and all we can eat on the high street is either American fast food, pizza or those fish and chip shops. Wouldn't it be great if there was more variety, like Taco Bell and the Cheesecake factory?

It's why Americans are so fat, eh?

My Dad considers himself a "Cheesecake Connoisseur" or sorts, he went to America late last year an was thrilled with the Cheesecake Factory.
