I mean, good for the family/the girl. But I hate these cases that seem so big, yet happen every day anyway.
You have a point, and what you say is true, doesn't mean you shoud'nt care though...

There are many casualty estimates, most concurring on a range within the hundreds of thousands. The United Nations (UN) estimates that the conflict has left as many as 200,000 dead from violence and disease. Most non-governmental organizations use 200,000 to more than 400,000; the latter is a figure from the Coalition for International Justice that has since been cited by the UN. Sudan's government claims that more than 9,000 people have been killed, although this figure is seen as a gross underestimate. As many as 2.5 million are thought to have been displaced as of October 2006.
Thats just one of the many tragedies (sp) in the world today and I can't wait to feel delighted when that comes to a happy ending (if it ever does/can).

I thank you for the facts and figures and hope you appriciate that while I don't belittle the problems in Darfur at all, I am thrilled for a fellow parent to have their little girl safely returned, and hope you see why it was bottom of my list of four things?

I would still feel upset about the poor people in Darfur even if this 1 child story had ended in tragedy but thankfully this child has been returned safe and well and thats something to celebrate.

Very rarely do we get happy endings like this in the UK when it comes to missing children, we have had some high profile tradegys in recent years well not just recent years its just a sign of society and the fact we are in 2008, sad isn't it?

I agree with you totally. This happens everyday...sure it is sad but frankly, and brutally, it doesn't bother me at all.

holy shit, TVs on the bus?!

I hate DC's buses.

-Most of them are the shitty old buses. They're dirty, kinda ugly, and probably burn more fuel than an Abrams tank

-A few of them are natural-gas based and their interiors are usually made of win, but who gives a shit... unless the majority of the buses are natural gas, we might as well just keep using gasoline

-There's a small amount of hybrid electric ones as well, but again unless that's deployed around all of DC who gives a shit?

-There are also some very modern-looking buses... slap hybrid engines on those babies and DC's transport system would be

And that's notwithstanding the fact that the buses here are incredibly unreliable in terms of showing up. I can drive to school in 10 minutes. It once took me an hour (mostly waiting) to get home on the bus.

People in Britain care because she's British. Not me, but my point is people tend to care about their own countrymen more than others.

Massacre happens in Burma nobody cares.

School shooting in America, Americans care.

You might not agree with that, but deep down you know it's the truth.

Im happy to give my thoughts on other sad events all over the world but 1, I dont poke my head into the Debate section and 2, this is a thread about Shannon Matthews being found, not other sad events around the world.

...

Nobody disagree then? I was expected some sort of "I feel for all humans the same. We are all one race, human. You should be ashamed".

There we go, I had to say it myself but you got too sometimes.

I personally never said anything about other events in the world, when I say this shit happens to other children all the time, I'm still talking about this country.

Yeah Hurricane, some of the buses here have LCD screens on the upper floors. They usually just have advertising and stuff, no sound otherwise it would piss everyone off. And they sometimes display missing kids etc..

Maybe our country is starting to learn how giving constant media help can help in finding these missing children.  I havent checked who brought up Darfur for eg first please don't feel my response was towards you.  If my kids wen't missing I would post their pictures and all details on this site and others.  A complete Needle in a Haystack but an option I would take as when things are out of your hands you will do anything in desperation.

I hope from now on every child that dosen't come home from school on time is given time on Breakfast News the next morning ( as I remember it) in the hope we can find them.  It's helped in bringing this girl back to her family, should that be immediate family?

+1.

Usually it's only the cute kids who get media exposure, too. It's disgustingly obvious what people sympathise with. It isn't just their situation, that's for sure.

Good to see a missing kid back with her family, though.
