8800GTX vs [HD3870 X2 + HD3870] Tri-fire

There is opportunity to change my 8800GTX to HD3870 X2 and I have just enough money to buy a HD 3870 as well (remember the 160€ thread. I didn't spend it yet).
I have X38 mobo so I could do full speed PCI-E 2.0 16x/16x crossfire.

Worth it or not?
The seller of the HD 3870 X2 is 100% trustable with very good reputation so that is not a problem. And thanks to HD3870 price drops I can get used cards very cheap.

I wouldn't, such a bother, and you don't know what bugs there will be when combining those cards...

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I reckon go for it. From my understanding, the X2 is more powerful then a GTX, and you also get the bragging rights of "trifire".

Catalyst 8.3 supports crossfireX in ANY crossfire-ready mobo!

How often do you change your graphics card, really?
