MIAMI (Reuters) - Florida's Democratic Party said on Monday it would no longer push for a re-run of the state's invalid primary election to pick a presidential candidate, leaving a decision on what to do with the state's delegates entirely to the national party.

The chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party, Karen Thurman, said thousands of voters had sent in messages saying what they wanted to do after the Democratic National Convention invalidated the January 29 ballot to punish Florida for holding its primary early.

"The consensus is clear: Florida doesn't want to vote again. So we won't," Thurman said in a statement.

All I know is that, if Hillary gets the nomination, McCain will be a shoe-in for president.

demos look like shit with all these in fighting. giving mccain fuel for his campaign. he doesnt even need to do much right now. the worse the demos look, the higher his chances get. the polls are starting to support this.

Good points... What's sad about this is that it proves the true weakness of democracy. Pluralities equal losses. In order to win elections, a hive mentality is encouraged among parties.

For example, not much of a rational debate was engaged in the Republican primary process. It was just a matter of 2 social conservatives dividing the social conservative vote vs. a moderate. This plurality gave McCain his victory (exacerbated by a winner takes all system of vote delegation). Yet this subtle subversion of the popular vote actually leads to a stronger campaign for the Republicans by deciding the candidate earlier.

The fact that the Democratic primaries are more democratic in nature makes it harder to produce a stronger campaign. The election system itself favors conformity and a hive mind attitude. Many people complain of mobocracy, but if any mobocracy exists in our system, it's due to the campaign structure, not any real "bread and circus" issues.

In short, if the Democrats really want to win a presidential election these days, they might as well just let the machine pick the candidate from the beginning, so that there isn't this bickering leading up to the convention. That's how things used to be, and sadly, it may prove to be better for Democratic victories....
