Doesn't work on XP either. It can't download updates for some reason.
Get AVG Anti-Spyware instead. It catches both spyware and adware.
edit: I had run Ad-Aware and it didn't catch anything. I ran AVG and it got 13 medium risk objects.

A²free (a squared free)
avg antispyware
superantispyware
Don't give nasty messages when trials are over (like when you run hitman pro) and usually do the trick pretty good.
Combofix in nasty cases only.
