Your telling me that Cox has gone into my computer and looked at my files, found a movie and then disconnected my internet connection!? And THEN THREATENED TO TERMINATE SERVICE WITH ME IF THEY FOUND IT AGAIN!?
I know whats coming, "PWNED!" "get off of limewire" "DMCA owned you" and all that good shit, I dont want this to be one of those threads
I put this thread in Everything else because, yes, it is lol worthy... but I want a serious discussion here - Im still not sure if its worth D&ST though (mods move it if you think so)
I feel my privacy has been invaded, I got this movie a while ago, its not like they intercepted packets and then dumped my connection, THEY HAD TO HAVE LOOKED IN MY FILES AND THEN DONE THAT
People making money off of selling copied dvd's, thats wrong, but since when can an ISP go into someones personal files?! Its not like im selling this movie or distributing it!
How would you feel if this happened to you? Or how do you feel if your a Cox customer knowing that Cox is looking in your files??
Discuss.
It was a complaint from a company that thought you were using they're copywrited stuff. It most likely wasnt cox that was invading your computer, but the MPAA tracking what you download from limewire, also, they probly watched your packets but it takes so long for them to file the paperwork needed to contact Cox (because they probly busted a lot of people) that your just hearing about it today.

If this is true i'll have a new love for Verizon. I already love them lots for giving me a 20 meg fiber optic connection in place of my 3 meg shared DSL connection for the same price per month, and a free digital cam-corder for signing the contractmtb0minime wrote:
It's your own fault, tbh. They have a right to disconnect your internet if you're doing illegal activities with their service. Plus, if they refuse to disconnect you, the RIAA can sue Cox. And since Cox doesn't want to get sued, they'll do what the RIAA wants.
However, Verizon is a great company. Apparently the RIAA is having trouble with them since they'll tell Verizon to disconnect users who are downloading stuff, but Verizon tells the RIAA to screw themselves.

- How exactly are they supposed to know you saw it in the cinema ... twice ?
- How can they possibly know you have planned to buy it ?
- How the freaking fuck are they to know that you only downloaded piracy to watch the first 3 minutes to check if it was a cam ?
Like said before if you do crime you give up certain rights, besides i very much doubt they snooped around in your PC, they don't have the time - they probably traced a package and send you a warning! ... when so many packages have been traced then they will come for a visit and you are fucked for life with a debt larger than Mount Everest.
There is so incredibly large amounts of money in this so how long to you think a ip mask will save your skin ? ... answer: not very long!
We have just seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to anti piracy prosecution ...
Wait behind the line ..............................................................
Im happy that i live in Sweden

It's been said a few times already-- They did NOT access your computer. Your IP was recorded as being in a list of clients sharing that particular file. Be glad that you received a warning, and not a notification of litigation.
You can't assume that everything out there on the internet is legal, and just because some people get away with it doesn't mean that you can too. Imagine how pissed off you would be if it were your intellectual property being distributed without permission or compensation.
