The BF2s do-it-yourself thread.

I only have one:

https://img219.imageshack.us/img219/204/fanbj3.jpg
https://img225.imageshack.us/img225/1531/frontfansw4.jpg

Took the fan off the stock heatsink for my Core 2 Duo since I didn't have anything better to use it for and stuck it on to the front using plastic ties, making a (ineffective, but still something ) intake fan.

This is of course just until I get a 120mm fan to replace it with, then I'll probably just stick it somewhere else lol.

Show off yours! (If you have any).

Let's see.

I have a 80mm led casefan fitted to the (passive by default) heatsink of my GF4MX440 (with ONE screw) -> overclocks like no tomorrow.
I have drilled a grid to my front panel to allow better intake for a 80mm casefan there. (outtake when the 92mm is in use)
I have a 92mm casefan attached to the empty PCI holes in the back, with power stolen from 4-pin CPU-power connector (not in use currently, too loud)

Pics (lousy mobile phone quality) of the "GPU-fan" will follow shortly.

Ohh boy... This is my kinda thread!

For starters, here's my CPU heatsink since the fan on it broke:
https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0030-1.jpg

Just temporary until I can get a new cooler.

My case, two 120mm fans added in the side.
https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0025-4.jpg

There are two mods in this pic, but they're hard to see;

The 80mm fan hole on the back was originally 60mm, I've enlarged it.
The PSU fan is controlled by a 6-fan fan controller in the front, as opposed to it's broken automatic steering (Always maxed, WHOPIIIIIEEE)
https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0142-1.jpg

The blue LEDs in the front are taken fronm an NZXT case that someone threw out, they blink and fade, really nice light show. This pic is kinda old, so the upper fan isn't there.
https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0120.jpg

My laptop-picture frames, had to re-route the cables on the back of the screen to enable screen flipping.
https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0122.jpg

My 7600GS; It used to be passive, now it's cooled by a 70mm fan. Never over 40C on 600/500MHz with the fan on lowest speed.
https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0053.jpg

And here is my leetest ghetto mod so far: An Intel socket 423 fan on a Radeon 9600SE passive cooler my GeForce 6600. It owns. Quiet, and very effective.

https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0006-3.jpg

I have a ton more mods, but I can't be arsed to post them right now.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I don't have a ghetto mod, but what I do have, is a ghetto fix.

Imagine a sunday morning. Your hangover is starting to wear off and you're beginning to feel kinda good. You put the kettle on, turn your PC on and go out for a nice, soothing smoke that'll give you a good bowel movement. A sunday morning hangover sheit, if you will. Because you know that the coffee's almost done, and the cigarette is starting to work as it should on mornings like these, you're looking forward to taking a dump with a fresh cup of dark roasted Guatemalan blend in one hand and todays paper in the other.

As you walk past the PC, you hear a very disturbing sound, and the screen isn't looking like it should either. The fan on your cheap X550GE is saying its last words, taking it's very last breaths. Obviously you don't mind because the card was a cheap shitty one, but it's Sunday, you can't get a new one anywhere before tomorrow, and you've prepared yourself for some hardcore.. ..googling.

So you quickly do everything as humanly possible to save your card and shut down the PC instantly, then go for the dump which now has lost its status as a good sunday morning crapper moment. You pull the stinky poo of a PCi-e card out and assess the situation. The fan needs to be replaced. Now.. ..where the hell can you find a fan? You remember all the junk that you have in a box stored in the attic and find a 2,50 € fan. Now, how to mount it quickly.. Shit, there's no thermal paste in the toolbox..

Presto! Ghetto fix!

And it worked like so for 6 more months. Actually, it never broke down, I just got tired of poopy graphics.

I snapped my old CPU fan by dropping a screwdriver into it (while it was spinning), breaking the fins (/flaps?).

So I took out the case fan, and attached it using 1 screw and a paper clip :<

Lol!

It's the cheapest possible PCi-e GFX card you can get (70€ 2 years ago, now maybe 30), after the X300 of course (which is probs around 20€).

Now I'm rolling with a 8600GT, which is slightly better, yet no winrar.

In all the years that I've owned a computer, I have not once had a fan die on me.
