Well, I was wondering, is it worth it at all to use a 64 bit OS? What are the pros and cons? And are there any serious compatibility issues?

I have been using WinXP Pro x64 Edition since August 2005, and there have been very few problems.  Mostly driver issues that have been dealt with for the most part.  I had to buy a printer based on who had 64-bit drivers at the time, but that worked out OK.  Otherwise, I can't run really old games like the Civilization for Windows (16-bit game) and Max Payne (16-bit installer).

XP or Vista? Because I don't think I'll be touching vista again, since it lowered my performance by like 20% in games. Or has SP1 fixed the huge performance loss?

edit: aimed @ maurer.

Vista x64 works out perfectly fine for me, blazing fast and such. Downloading SP1 as we speak, I'll check if performance has improved.

Ok, I'll go for XP x64, since I don't really feel like going vista, thanks guys.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like x64 crashes less.

I haven't had any BSODs on this install of XP 32 bit, about 7 months old now.

Probably, your address space depends on your hardware configuration as well.
No issues with 64 bit btw.

You have a Zune, don't you?  I take it you use Vista x64?

I have Windows XP Pro x64, and the Zune software refuses to install.  Apparently, MS does not believe that XP x64 is used in a non-corporate environment.  I have to go through an obnoxious software hacking procedure to get the damn thing to work every time they roll out an update.  Just one of those things, I guess.

More that 3 gigs of ram --> 64-bit OS
3 gigs or less ram ---> 32-bit OS

easy.

64 bit has more advanatges, but you can't see most of them.
I'd choose the x64 version (wait, I already did)

Yeh, the majority of people who move from XP to Vista upgrade to 4gig (64 bit users) anyway

That's weird. It installed just as easily as it did on my other two 32bit computers.

I don't know about the accuracy of that, but it's certainly more secure.
