That can combine 2 separate media files and have them play back-to-back without breaks as if it were one (ie. you downloaded a movie separated into halves and dont want to manually switch)

And, a good quality converter that can convert to other formats as well as convert movie/video files to audio.

What's wrong with just playing the two files in a playlist?

I've done that with a movie that was split in two and I didn't even notice the switch.

When you dont have that much control on the order it plays (putting them on a portable player or a DVD can be troublesome.)

Why not use 01. 02. 03. 04. prefixes? Works for me.

Some streams can be directly joined if you know the header structure.  MPEG and AVI are fairly easy to join without recompression if the streams match in structure (frame rate, size, encoder, etc).  VirtualDub will join AVI's very easily and the MPEG tools in TMpgEnc will handle MPG1/MPG2 streams.  Joining is seriously faster than recompression and you'll also not lose any quality.

WMV and MP4 are a little different, although an MP4 encoded AVI is still joinable.  You'll need to recompress them in any decent video editor.
