To iPod/iPhone users. They're in talks, but it sounds like it's gonna happen.

That'd be fkn . Finally, the music business got it right.

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20 … ipods.html

A report by the Financial Times (registration required) cites unnamed executives who say that Apple is in talks with record labels to offer access to the entire iTunes music library for a lump sum price. The fee would be added as a premium option on an iPod or iPhone, or it could come as a monthly charge. It would allow downloading of any song at any time so long as the purchaser still owns the device, and the songs would be yours to keep.

From what it seems like, it's going to be $20 per device.

...that's not bad.

And I doubt you'd lose everything, it'd just be unaccessable. I dunno. I'm sure Apple will figure it out.

Then you sir are an idiot.

#1: You BUY music online. I hope you backed up every file onto another Hard Drive and DVD(s).
#2: You use Itunes, which has unarguably THE SHITTIEST QUALITY i have ever heard.  People have another reason to pirate music.
#3: Apple likes to screw you over with a bucketload of technicalities that will somehow make you pay even MORE money, because thats what greedy transnationals do.

Uhhhh....He doesn't even have to back it up because he can re-download it again at any time for free after he bought it.

Can you please name a specific case that pertains to buying music over i tunes about your 3rd point?

Im glad we agree on the second point.

I remember seeing articles on apple screwing people over in the manner which i spoke, but you only need to look at other companies for numerous other examples.

Fuck, I dunno...I don't use that shit.

But you can use the download the song on up to 5(?) computers at once...and if you computer crashed you could most likely just call apple and straighten things out.

their backup system is easier to use than anything.  just pop in DVDs.  when you download moar songs that arent on the DVDs, just put in another one and it will know which songs were backed up and which werent.

They don't I don't know what the fuck he is talking about. But if they are on your Ipod then you can still get them back, quite easy in fact.

best thing would be to use Time Capsule

TBH, if Macs were cheaper and had better hardware I'd buy one.

Thats really weird. My buddy does the whole itunes thing, and after having his ipod die they took it from him before he could back it up and told him to re-download his music.

He re-downloaded the music that he had bought for free....so?

Only thing I can think of is they re-authorized his account to download the songs. I never got a second chance when I forgot to back up my stuff

Nonono, I mean I reformatted my computer's hard drive without backing up.

I think I e-mailed them, they might have re-authorized it. I didn't have many songs from the store anyways.
