Thanks to the good people of the Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad, I got to wear their EOD-9 Suit. (I'm in explorers). That thing is 90 pounds of Kevlar. Not very fun to walk around in/ get up off the ground in. It's also kinda hot and stuffy, but fun. No hand protection so you can use your fingers, and lets be honest, that close, it wouldn't make a difference. The suit will protect you at 10 meters, and I wouldn't really want to be closer than that when things got hot.

I'm in the explorer program for WCPD. It's a FREE program to give people ages 15-20 a taste of police life. I know most departments in CA have 'em. I have no idea how much the suit costs. Google the EOD-9 suit.

That's fkn . We have an explorer program for our FD, but I'm not really interested in fightin' fiahs. A PD explorer program sounds fun though.

I think if a bomb's about to go off the last thing you'd be thinking about were your fingers. Plus you need ungloved hands for defusing bombs because it takes finese and delicate movements. Gloved hands would be too cumbersome.

The Box controlled lights, air, Speakers/Microphone, and the wrist rockets.

He wears those boots (and the yellow stripe) cause he is the guy in charge of the Motorcycle unit. He's also on the SWAT team and Bomb Team.

You only wear that when you go "Downrange". They park the truck a couple hundred yards away, and you slip into the suit (takes about 5 minutes with the help of 2 Techs). You then proceed to walk/ATV downrange, do your stuff with the bomb, and come back. They usually don't wear the full suit if they're going "Hands on" unless there's a very high personal risk (although, aren't all bombs risky?).
