Anytime I try to view a video that is played by windows media player, or listen to my XM radio player (which is through WMD) I get no feed at all. I get an error message that tells me that WMD can't locate th media and if it is on a website to connect to the internet (wow thanks for the great tips!).
I've been searching on and on for the latest version for Vista 32 bit and whenever I try to manually install it says "There is a more current update available this update does not apply to your system." I have installed codec packs and the lot of it and nothing, help please!!!

Works fine for me.
Try WMP 10.

oh buddy, welcome to the worst problem i've ever had with vista.  it was the biggest pain in the ass, but i finally tracked a solution down in the microsoft newsgroups (of all places.)  ready for this excercise in asshattery?

ok, two things to do.  first, open media player, hit alt to open the menu bar, and click tools>options.  on the "player" tab, make sure "connect to internet (overrides other commands)" is checked.  click ok and close media player.

step two, open the control panel, then the "default programs" icon.  select the last item in the list which is "set program access and defaults."  when that window opens, click the button in front of "custom" and click the little drop down arrow to open the list.  find the section that says "choose a default media player" and select "windows media player." click ok, and you'll see it resetting itself as the default.  go back and verify the settings.  make sure custom is selected, and it should say "use my current media player" under the default media player section.  (which is now windows media player, the applet is kinda misleading).  i had to do this twice before it worked (i musta missed a click) but this should fix the problem!

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is located on the Internet, connect to the Internet. If the file is located on a removable storage card, insert the storage card.

I'm still getting the same error message... Should I run driver cleaner and clean up my WMD drivers?

I checked and rechecked what you said to do and it still didn't work, I don't get it.

did you do it twice?  try again...

otherwise, the only advice i can give is to either use a different media player, or search around in the MS newgroups.  there were quite a few people in there with similar problems.

You pretty much nailed it, that is the only advice the MS site gives other than to make sure work offline is not checked in the file tab.

Well, seeing as I can't uninstall windows media player 11 so that i can go back to ten I'm at a dead end here... I go to add or remove prgrams and the only program I can remove for media player 11 is the firefox plug-in WTF1?

Videos can be solved by easily by using another player, be it Winamp or VLC (my preferences). I suggest emailing XM to get the audio feed addresses as loading them in Winamp will be easier then dealing with the proprietary software.
