Ive got a EVGA 512 8800GT running at 50C and the ambients 42C
a 3.0 C2D running at 36 C (with stock intel heatsink)
and my HDD temp is 34C

Ive had the computer on since 5 (8:40 now) and ive been downloading  a bunch of files and playing some games so i dont know if that affects anything.

Ive got rivatuner but I dont want to do anything without consulting my fellow bf2ers ive never done this before so the last thing i want to do is fry my new shit

I should over clock my processor until ___ C.

what are you using to get your cpu temps?

Until you get artifacts.

EDIT: You said CPU, lulz.

Okay so then keep it under 65-70*C at load.

i would use the intel tat to test temps...does a better job than anything else... it reads from the cpu, not from the motherboard like most do. speedfan had me running a good 5C below what i really was.

and i would keep it below 55C at load. not like 65 is gonna kill it, but i would rather play it safe then "oh shit!".

Maybe he's talking about his CPU and not his GPU?

Disable Intel EIST when you start to OC, then enable it when you find the speed you like. EIST will down clock your cpu when its not in use to keep it cool.

Not what Apple in their infinite wisdom claim for their Intel machines.....

They say anything under 100C is fine (and that's not overclocked).

Hence the number of Macs that suffer from broken logic boards/CPUs.

For graphice card overclocking, I redirect you to http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=95040 .

As for the CPU, I would highly recommend that you get an aftermarket cooler for it if you wanna overclock. Same for the graphics card, since the 8 series tend to run really hot with stock coolers.

If you have a 3GHz C2D, I don't think there's really a need for overclocking it, especially if you don't have any experience with it (overclocking). A 3GHz C2D will have plenty of power for a long time to come, especially if it's a 45nm one.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
