Okay...first of all, MSI has terrible products, especially for Video Cards. go with XFX or EVGA, preferably XFX, and tell him to save up more, cuz an 8600GT is gonna cut it, he can save up for an 8800gs or gt, depending how long he can wait. OR, go with a 9600gt for 150, same as an 8800gt, but not as good, but better than the 8800gs and it makes an 8600gt look like a gameboy.

8600gt>8800gs>9600gt>8800gt

that's how it is in performance and budget wise.

if you want an 8800gt...get the XFX 8800GT XXX Edition...it's overclocked and goes for about 100 dollars on newegg before MIR. I have one and it is very nice for the price.

OT: well im not sure... but i can tell u i run my 1 GB 8600 GT OC'd to 650 core /1350 shader /550 memory (yer i know 1gb is unessesary but it was only like $5 dearer than 512 version lulz) i run CoD4 on high, and crysis on high with good fps

EDIT: also... would a larger card like a 8800 fit in his computer? is it a pre build? etc etc
