Yep, but the screenshots in the OP seem like vanilla HL2. Maybe reinstalling can fix it.

Yes, it's the Valve "Oh shit, son, you don't have anything defined locally for this" error box. It's a normal occurrence in the level editor, and could very well occur in the vanilla HL2.
