I want awesome internet but English ISP's say no

EDIT: what do your speed tests say?

If you're using mozilla and click on the download link but don't yet specify the location, it will be secretly downloading in the background, and when you select the location and click save it will give you an insane speed reading as you already have been downloading a lot of the file without knowing.

It happened with me the other day when i was uploaded some legal documents the upload speed went up to 20000kb but it froze my upload had to restart, shame it was almost over too.

I've never uploaded on rapidshare before, do you have to click 'upload' after browsing to the file you want? If so then the same mechanic applies
Also there's a possibility that if you're uploading parts of a larger rar file it caches bits of other parts as you upload each one...

or maybe I just have no idea what I'm talking about and your isp gave you some freak speed boost for a little bit
