Ok so Im in the USAF, yes Im a pilot{someone is going to ask} someone that has more bars then me is wondering to the public... "Why is the Army getting less and less people each year...." Ok if your in the other branches in the USM I respecet all of u. I was wondering for the US players of BF2 {What a great crowd we are} What do u think about the United States Army? And for those that hate the Army please be respectful and keep it clean please. So shoot away Ill write down the good ones and give it to my C.O. ! O and sorry for putting it under CHATTER sorry....

My dad is Navy and Marine gradute, retired as 1st Lt. So I typically lean against Army.  I even have some shot glasses that have rankings of how much whiskey the Army, Women, Air  Force and Navy can handle in one go.  One reason I know of that Air Force gets so many people to the Army is because it is more centrally located whereas Westpoint is on the East Coast.  As is Anapolis.  I want to be a Marine, and if not a Marine I want to go Air Force, but its not about location for me as you see.  I guess its just people dont like to be ground pounders much anymore...

I am ex army...
1 the af standards of living on post is 20 times that of the army(10 years ago that is)
2 the Af has better jobs(mos) that can be used in civ life
3 af is not up front they dont do convoy duty the dont clear houses and etc...
4 most ppl think that the af is just plain safer than the army or usmc
5 pt santdards are not the same they where not 10 years ago dont know about  now
etc

Job-wise the army must have a broader focus (it is a combat force like any other, but still) to handle occupation duties. I was speaking with a Marine Col. (Reserve) I know who had done two tours in Iraq and he wasn't expecting to be mobilized a second time during the course of the war, typically because the Marines have not traditionally done classic occupation duties. I do know that the army, at present, has longer deployments than any of the other branches (I believe the USMC is still keeping to the 7-8 months per deployment) this again is probably due to increased occupation duties recently.

EDIT: I guess I didn't get the thrust of your question...

What can I say...the army is...the army. It's big, it's cumbersome, it's effective. It's your all 'rounder ground pounder. If I had to join a branch of the service I'd probably go with the army. It would be easier for me to find a place for my particular skill set.

I cant believe you couldnt answer it strait out. I mean shit you are in the millitary, why did you pick AF insdead of ARMY? your job? your asvab score? I was prior NAVY and the reason i went with NAVY over all of the others is Because i wanted to be one of the best pilots. but settled for AMS (aviation structural mechanic) or "airframer" So my best bet that everyone would answer is that they took the asvab, looked at what jobs they could have then joined the branch that offered it.

my .02, Army hasnt done fighting since Vietnam, now, its the Marines who kickass, and the Army has to clean up the mess

P.s.  I am in the British Army and if the American is similar, then they are not looked upon very fondly by civilian trade equivelants.  The army is a place where all the people not smart enough to join the air force, or for people who cant swim well enough to join the navy.  All that is changing in the british army though.  They are paying to allow people to further their education during their time.  I have just completed a degree in Accounting (Ba Hon) and I am about to continue to do my Masters

I was offered a full scholorship with army ROTC after a semester at embry riddle, i had full intentions of taking it until i came home for the summer and realized how much i enjoyed a civilian life.  The standard of living is increasing outside the army faster than it is on the inside.  My best friend is in Bagdhad right now, he doesnt hate it, but he doesnt like it.  So i guess for me im not politcaly far enough to the right, and im not willing to make all the sacrafices, if i lost a leg i would be devistated.  I also know that if i was commissioned i would probably become a different person, and i didnt want that either.

Alright, 22 years in a greensuit, and I'll give you my spin on it.  There's a million different reasons people join the one branch over another (any decent leader knows that).  The Army has done a better job the last 5 years bringing living conditions up to par with other services.  Education wise, I think the Army has probably some of the best programs out there (I have over 3/4 of my company enrolled in college classes, 1/4 of them nearing their BS/As). 

I've worked with civilians (I was the only greensuiter at the site) and I'll tell you this:  The corporate sector is constantly trying to recruit young officers to get out and work for them, hire retiring Senior NCOs to be managers, and I can't count the number of times I've gotten phone calls from Police/Sherrif/Fire depts asking about Joe so and so as a hiring prospect when they get out. 

What the Army has starting doing in the last 12 months is trying harder to educate the civil sector on what we are about (notice the changes in recruiting commercials?).  I think that is sorely overdue.

i think the reason why no one wants to join the army is because no one wants to sit around and get bombed. the armys job is to hold their position (currently iraq). they continuously get bombed by all the iraqis there, and to other people, that doesnt sound like a lot of fun. if you are in the marines or any other branch, you get to assault and shoot/blow the fuck out of a lot of stuff. also, the army infantry (not including rangers/berets/other more special forces types) arent as well trained as everyone else. i wish i could join the military (i would most likely go into marines or maybe rangers) but i broke my back and have a bunch of screws in it so no military for me.
