It's all our civic duty to vote, but it's more complicated than just voting for patriotic compulsion.  For example, it's equally condemnable to vote for the wrong reasons (ie., lesser of evils, one to spite another, prevent opposite from taking office, etc) than it is to not vote at all.

If there isn't a candidate that fits your minimum interest, then no, you shouldn't vote.  If you haven't done an "honest" study of candidates or ballot measures, then you should not vote for those items.  In other words,  your civic duty should be to study "honestly" the things you are being asked to vote on..that's much more important than the votes you cast, imho.

For example, if it was Hillary vs. McCain for president, I could not give my vote to either...it would be irresponsible as far as I'm concerned...as irresponsible as NOT studying them both equally and comparing.

Regarding the OP question, I am a voter.
Excellent point.  I probably should have said 'Informed voting is my civic duty'.  I do take the time to figure out what each candidate represents and what their platforms are.

I admit - I don't vote in school board elections out here, because I did not attend K-12 schools in Monroe county, much less in the district I currently live in.  I don't pay property tax, I don't have kids, and I don't really pay attention to the state of education in area, so I don't vote in those elections.  I have voted in every national and state election since I was eligible, but local elections are a little more complicated.  My legal residence was not where I went to school for 3 years, so I missed many of those smaller local elections.  However, since I wasn't 'living' there, my votes would not have been informed.

In short, you are 100% correct.

People died in their millions to vote.

To have their say.

So I vote (Though only just became old enough to) and I hate those that think it's pointless and doesn't change anything.

Even if you do vote it is not a waste. Maybe even if I refused to vote for a leading party I would still vote for the pensioners party or the communist party, or even the green party. Even though I disagree with them.

Why? Because it's a vote AGAINST the government.

As much as I hate him, I really don't.  Rather, I've come to enjoy his general candor and personality on these boards..but I'm not considering any butt sex with him yet.

I vote...  although I may skip this election if it comes down to Hillary and McCain.  Either that or I'll just vote for Nader.
