OK. ATi just heard about this. Many ppl are doing testing (icluding me. I just heard about this too) and trying to figure out what is going on. This is the reason why HD 3870 cards have been doing so 'badly' in reviews. This thing is 100% there. I just tryied playing Crysis and the bitch ran on 2D clocks half of the time. No wonder it gets blown up by compatitor cards in tests.

HardOCP is trying to figure out what is going on.

"On another note, I talked to Kyle, and he said he has got some ATI eyes on this subject and they are looking into it. There apparently is a real issue here and it's being worked on, just no details at the moment."

"It appears to affect all 3870.*

Lolfail.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I sent a message to ATi Catalyst driver team. I'm waiting for their response.

"I have a HD 3870 X2 graphics card. There is very annoing bug called 'powerplay bug' which means the card keeps switching between 2D and 3D clocks even under full graphics load. This causes games to 'stall' and result in very poor performance. There are many others experiencing similar issues with HD 3870 and HD 3850 series graphics cards.

I would like you to see this thread for example.

I would like to know if this issue is being solved soon or if you even were aware of this. I know a guy who is making review of this product and he is having even worse issues with powerplay.

I included a screenshot of Rivatuner showing powerplay bug in Half Life 2: Episode 2. You can clearly see what is the problem.
This happens in many other games as well. Crysis is the one having worst problems. Please fix it."

Oh wow.... I think I just found a solution to all problems with stuttering and powerplay with Radeon cards...

For some reason the card wants to run all games in something else than dx9. This causes huge performance hit. When you force dx9 on by making a shortcut and adding a command -dx9 on the target line, miracles happen. All stuttering and performance issues are now GONE! CoD 4 runs smooth, HL2: EP2 runs smooth....
You guys have no idea how much time and effort I used to find out this...
Time to enjoy my smooth games now
