sucks that I have the Dutch version can't install SP1 yet... damn it

but yeah, never got this bitching against Vista either, which software(operation system) doesn't have some bugs in the beginning honestly. (which are now gone)
Can't you install it through Windows update? Or just download the standalone 5 language package? I'm not sure if we dutchies don't have SP1 yet, but I run an english version of the OS anyway.
M$ released sp1 for most users, and then pulled it from automatic updates after they received so many complaints about compatibility issues.  you can still download the standalone installer, but you won't get it through auto updates until they fix it
Not true.  Vista SP1 is only visible on windows update if all the compatability requirements are met.  see this list for details - http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=948343

For me it was the sigmaTel driver for the integrated sound.  I have also found that you need to hide any updates you do not want to install before sp1 will display.  For example - hide any drivers it offers if you don't want them.

i could keep going... bottom line is that it wont be available via windows update until mid-april.

but we're both right.  it was available to everyone via auto-updates, but was then scaled back for only the users who have all compatible drivers.

RE: Vista SP1.

It improved performance and seemed to fix 12151251512 bugs in the OS (Almost all of which I have never encountered). Seemed like a great update that actually achieved something... until, lo and behold, my THX / 5.1 Surround Sound became borked. I guess the changes they made to the way Vista handles audio really disagreed with my Creative! Fatal1ty sound-card... such a shame! This is actually the first driver/hardware problem I have ever encountered with Vista- ironically when applying a patch that is meant to be the holy-grail of bug fixes!

Currently using non-service packed Vista, because I can't bear to game without all of my fancy THX and Hardware-Audio effects .

Anyone else find their sound 'change' in tone or consistency after applying Vista SP1?

i had my first vista fail moment yesterday.  after installing service pack 1, my headset stopped working.  i uninstalled the service pack, and they are now working again.  i guess that's more of a vendor issue than a vista issue, but why would a service pack mess that up?
How do you uninstall SP1?
in the add/remove programs, you can click an option on the left to "show updates."  then just find SP1 and uninstall.
Thanks man, I can now play Crysis again on my previous settings. It really bogged down my PC significantly.

Wait, simpler interface is an upside?
Why wouldn't it be?
I can't stand the "new" control panel view in XP. Too basic.
Just type in the search box what you want to do and be instantly able to do it?

I litterarly hate the "new" nVidia control panel. Such a bother to make one simple setting, let alone get access to that setting.
This bothered me in the beginning also (on XP) but I've gotten used to it. Then again it's not Vista, it's nVidia so I don't see your point

I hate being limited, prompted and forced to check "advanced user" boxes. And then "Really advanced user". And then "I wanna change settings that this software don't want you to change" boxes.
What?
Have you even used Vista for more than 5 minutes? (on a PC that's up to the task, that is.)
