Because we have the right to choose who we serve.

I worked as a 'sales assistant' (till jockey) in a garage for a while - I had the right, and the clearance from management, to refuse to serve anyone I chose to refuse to serve, for ANY reason. That right should extend to everyone.
You did not have the "right, and the clearance from management, to refuse to serve anyone I chose to refuse to serve, for ANY reason." I'm sure when management comes to you at the end of the day and asks you why you didn't serve anyone for the entire day and you answer "because none of them were my mother" you would not have a job the following day. The company has the right to refuse service but the employees do not.

In the case of the dentist, if he was the owner of his own practice, I must say that he had the right to refuse service, but if he was a dentist working for a company then he can not then refuse service.
No, it was written into my contract. I never tried to push it as far as not serving anyone but my mother, but I did refuse people for no other reason that they were being drunken annoying little shits, and the management were OK with that.

It's the English lowing!

EDIT: Actually, sorry, this guy makes one or two good points. But only one or two.
I will take that as a compliment......No wait what am I saying??!!  For get I said that.

Obviously this guy is generalizing and even though he is from Europe he knows nothing about what he is talking about. He is a bigot with no real argument to make. Where in the world do people get this absurd notion that Islam is slithering its way into our society, not to assimilate with it, but to change it for THEIR convenience? Completely ridiculous.

Take it as a compliment, lowing.  Seriously...  do.

Pat Condell is someone I've always respected a great deal (as you can probably tell from my sig).  He's like a British version of George Carlin -- very funny and incredibly sharp-witted.

The sad thing is that he's often put down by politically correct types without the spine to call a spade a spade.  Condell always provides a logical context for his complaints against Islam, and while he generalizes, he does it in a very concise and convincing manner.

From his actions, it doesn't really seem that Condell is a racist by any stretch of the imagination.  He spends a lot of time making fun of Christianity and even Judaism, so his complaints are against religion in general, not just Islam.  Granted, Islam does provide a wealth of material to criticize when you observe the hypocrisy of countries like Saudi Arabia accusing the West of discrimination (despite their own blatant discrimination against non-Muslims).

In short, Condell is criticizing a fair target, but it is one that is challenging to criticize in an age of political correctness as I'm sure you've noticed as well, lowing.

It's that last one that I question - he claims that it will be "run by extremists for extremists" - where's the proof of that?

All the other things - so what - we live in a free society - if they don't want to serve alcohol, and so on, fine.

Would you force a Jew to handle pork?
Personally, I'd tell anyone who works for me that they're going to do what their job requires.  If they don't like it, they can get the fuck out, but that's how it works in America.

In North Carolina, you have a right to work, and employers have a right to hire and fire as they see fit -- as long as they aren't firing people specifically because of their race, gender, or religion.  If a Jew or Muslim applies to work for a deli, they should know they will likely work with pork.  So if they find something like that repulsive, they shouldn't sign up, or if they get hired and don't comply, they can expect to get fired.

Pat Condell's awesome. He criticizes Judaism, Christianity and Islam alike. And he knows that while each religion's got it's share of nutjobs, neither Islam/Judaism/Christianity is violent or peaceful as a whole.

You know, as some people here like to think...

I still wonder if 9/11 didn't happen, people would be going up in arms as much as they do about Islam nowadays.

Are you a Christian?

If so, if you worked in a jewelers, would you be happy selling an inverted cross on a chain?
nobody said he had to be happy about it. get your fucking head out of your ass. the world doesn't care whether or not you're happy. the sooner you recognize this fact the sooner you're going to be able to wake up in the morning without feeling butthurt.

well said Turquoise....

I do not find it challenging to criticize, Islam, my problem is, I am a meat and potatoes kinda guy. I speak plain English, I say what I mean and do not see the need in entering a vocabulary contest on this forum to sound superior to those I am debating. As such I am not as eloquent with my words as you and a few others. The fact that I have zero political correctness also plays a part. I view PC as diluting, or compromising my opinion.  I can not do this, If I am wrong I will admit it, but I will not compromise my opinion to "make nice", when I feel I am right.

I appreciate the compliment, but it's just a matter of articulation.  Sometimes, you just have to make it clear that your beef is with certain cultural attitudes and practices and not with all of the people of a group.  Condell does this to great effect.  He has said some very loathsome things about Muslims, but the context of what he's saying is aimed at extremists.  Unfortunately, this subtlety is often overlooked by his critics.

But yes...  PC is aggravating as hell...

Actually I have made it perfectly clear, but in order to try and debunk my opinion, I am faced with over the top responses and accusations in order to make my words far worse than what was said or meant. By doing so they can claim a percieved victory because hell, lets face it, when you are accused of endorsing genocide of an entire people, the debate then shifts into a defensive posture on my part, instead of debating what was actually said.

A very shitty but effective tactic.
