New laptop suggestions.

So I'm looking to buy a laptop.

I will be heading off to uni in September, so need something more portable than my desktop.

I wont really need it to play games, though it would be good if i could, nothing to demanding like Crysis, don't worry. And I don't want anything that needs charging up every half hour.

I was thinking something like Intel Core 2 Duo T5450, 2G of RAM, 15inch screen, something along those lines. So I would appreciate any suggestions. Don't really know a great deal about computers, but I manage.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. Well yeah, it's not the most good looking machine out there ... if you can stretch to an XPS M1330 or XPS M1530 they're much nicer looking but you'll pay a premium

Yeah theres a XPS1530 with same specs as the Vostro, only visible advantage apart from looks is a larger Hard drive, I'm guessing the display will be better on the XPS.

But like you said, its £130 more.

Anyway, whats with the all the Dells?

What can I say, their laptops are nice lately, good looks and reasonable prices for high power machines ... can't go wrong really

actually me too.

I'm trying to decide if I should get a laptop off of newegg or get a dell. My price range is about $1500 probably another $200 would be fine at max. I want something that I can still play some games on (as I'll probably leave my desktop at home when I go to college) but I still want a good amount of battery life

£550 delivered?! That's like £300 cheaper than the XPS I was looking at. The 9 Cell batteries should be back on sale with Dell soon also, after a recall of some sort I believe.

Mitch, was just thinking. Don't people discourage strange amounts of RAM like 3GB? Wouldn't I be better with 2GB or 4GB? Maybe a stupid question.

Hmm yeah it's to do with running it in dual channel. Ie. for 1GB Ram rather than running 1 x 1GB stick, 2 x 512mb sticks. Props wouldn't notice much of a difference though in all honesty ... you could make it 4GB but if you're running a 32bit OS only 3.5 (i think) will be recognised.
