I lol'd at this. +1 for appealing to a fairly cynical sense of humour.

Great to see/hear that the number of fatalities was kept to a minimal. Luck? Good car design? Reasonable driving standards in Austria? Who knows.

I would have been much more shocked if the cars weren't crumpled and twisted like some post-modern sculpture. Crumple zones are critical in saving lives, especially in 'pile-ups' where you're getting hit in front AND behind.

So all in all a good thing that all the metal is twisted to hell and back.

Its been all over news here and I cant believe that it was only one fatality. I guess its good cars (german) and good driving etiquette (sp?) - good distance between cars and seatbelts.
They blame the accident on bad weather, but they blame the severity of it on too many trucks on the road. But than they constantly bitch about too many trucks in Austria
