Northbridge chipset cooling?

According to speedfan, which I don't trust too much, my mobo idles at 40°C, gets even hotter in games.

Going into games and all, the heatsink is burning to the touch.

I have a Gigabyte P35-DS3L mobo, I've overclocked quite a bit, too. I was looking for some northbridge chipset heatsinks preferably, and this is the only decent looking one I could come up with:

40C idle isnt' too bad. Northbridges doesn't get much hotter when the system is under load anyhow. Remember that it's passive, and that 50C often feels like "burning".

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

So you think I am fine with the stock heatsink? When should I start worrying about it?

My rated fsb is 1700MHz up from 1333MHz and the bus speed is 425MHz up from 333MHz.

Well, should be fine, I've got a DS3 myself and run it on 1200MHz, and it barely gets warm. Just check the temps under a SuperPI/Prime95/3DMark run. As long as it's under 75, it should be no problem.

don't worry about it. Unless you're doing some extreme overclocking (think phase change) or are disturbed by the noise the stock heatsink is OK
