Coming April 1 at anywhere from $310 to $370, according to a Fudzilla article, referenced by Wikipedia's GeForce 9 Series article.

Preliminary benchmarks have shown an unsuprising lackluster (drivers to be taken into consideration) price/performance for the ~$550+ 9800GX2, so this could be an admirable step down, even if these TweakTown benchmarks are skewed as some claim. Of course, I'd love nothing better than a 9800 Ultra to retire my stoic 6800 Ultra into legacy application, but I can't find any word on one of those yet.

The G92 8800's should've been in the 9x00 series, but I don't think NV wanted stamp that business card yet. What I find confusing is the fact that (and my knowledge of electronics certainly doesn't extend very far into this field), unless EVGA got it wrong, is why memory size and bus width on the 9800 GTX is inferior to the 8800 GTX. Thus my earlier statement about hoping for an Ultra, but I have a strange feeling that the 9x00 is going to be much like the 7x00. NV expressed disdain for 10.1 and are going to go straight to the next version with the next lineup.

Be wary of anything that has a release date of April 1st.

Like the RAF?

I don't see anything unreasonable about its specifications or release timeline (unlike some of the 500 quadrillion megapixel nonsense thrown around about the series in Q4'07). Though the price does seem a bit dreamy (I'd expect $450 at the least), the 9600GT was released for under $200.

Hmmm...
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

*600 series cards would never cost that much.

As far as the 9800GTX goes, Isnt it just a oc on the 512 8800GTS with an extra SLI connector for tri SLI?  Atleast, perhaps on april first, they will turn round and say we fooled you.  Meh

If it's an official NVIDIA April fools, I will buy a 4870 out of spite.

EVGA has a spec sheet...linking soon.

I want some benchmarks that will show the difference between it and a 88GTS. Right now my card purchase is tied somewhat between the two, depending on the actual price when they're released.

I wonder (just for curiosity), if you can flash the 9800GTX bios onto an 8800GTS.  Least then we will get all the drivers without coughin up the cash for the same thing again!

Ahwell, it seems that the 9series will only be good for one thing and that is making sure the 8series prices go down

Browsing eBay now for the inevitable 8800 Ultras.

edit: Yup, there's some being bid for as low as $200.

...and one for $30.

Too bad Ebay isnt an option for me. But I've seen a brand new 8800GTX allready for €249. Which would be about 370 dollars I guess. So go 9series! Go make mah 8series cheap

I think the bus-bandwidth x 2 = the memory that can be addressed effectively. 384 x 2 = 768 on the GTX and Ultra. 256 x 2 = 512.

As far as I know, 256 x 2 = two 256-bit buses. The 512-bit thingy seems like a marketing scheme.

As to the $30 8800 Ultra, Ztronics has a good eBay rating, but an F from the Better Business Bureau, albeit from only a few complaints.
