When do you think EA will dump stat server support for BF2?

I'm not one of the idiots that goes around the boards screaming that BF2 is going to die, hell, 2+ years after its release and it's still one of the most played FPS games. It was around #5 last time I looked on the xfire stats.

But then again, it's not like EA really has any real financial intrest to keep this game alive. I'm not sure, do people pay EA for server renting and that sort of thing? Even so, EA has moved past BF2 and now past BF2142 in favor of more sequels such as Bad Company, BF: Heroes, and BF3. They're not going to make any more boosters/expansions, so eventually I'm willing to bet that they'll axe the stats.

When do you think it will happen? Do you think it will happen at all? I dunno, this IS EA we're talking about. How much money does it take to really maintain a stats server anyway?

theres a plenty of ranked servers which gave them additional money, so no, I don't think they'll drop stat support for BF2 untill BF3 will be out (if it will ever happen)

You have to remember that those are xfire stats. So it only counts the minutes of players using xfire.

I was of the impression that only people who played a lot of games would use xfire and that it wouldn't be a useful estimate of a games popularity as it doesn't include the casual gamer.

I could be wrong though..

I used to go by that, and I thought CSS was a lot more popular than 1.6.
Then I saw Valves site, and 1.6 was being played about 5x as much as CSS....

That surprised me.

BF2 won't die for a LONG, LONG, LOOONG time. The incredibly unique gameplay of the battlefield franchise and how fucking good BF2 is is going to keep it going. Look at Battlefield 1942. Is that dead? Not by a long shot. Battlefield vietnam still has servers going, and I still have a blast on em.
Counter Strike 1.6? Not dead. Day of Defeat? Has probably several hundred, if not thousand players. Same story with the original call of duty, Team Fortress Classic. Even some Half Life 1 mods are still played to this day.
Plus with the incentives of stats, it will keep going strong. I doubt even BF3 will break it.

i thank the lord that i stopped Playing Bf2 a long time ago. i knew sooner or later the hacking menace would get worse and even just as bad as CSS.

but i will always remember BF2 as the first online FPS that i love.

No I don't say that. I stopped playing it a while back and never made a big announcement. I don't really give a shit, bf2 can die tomorrow or next year for all I care. Infact it's only by chance I clicked on this thread again...

the truth is, i would still be playing Bf2 if those swedish morons at DICE and those powerhungry fools at EA took better care of their games and the support of Bf2. instead they just dropped their pants, turned around, bend over and shitted all over everyone face. Bf2 has soo many patches, it should be a mummy from king tuts tomb.

the amount of friendly servers when the game came out was large. now there are more asshat servers than good servers there.

now with the stats being hacked nasty, people are either going a) to other games since for some noobs, there is no point playing BF2 without stats- AKA stats are life b) play Bf2 but not as much.

Anyway, more hackers, less players, which means less populated servers, which means closing down servers, which means EA lose more then mke more, then they pull the plug, no, literally.

Because of small maps with only 2(3) ways to go, no squads/teamplay and much more campers then in battlefield.
