I tried the 16 player map for the first time today and it was the most ridiculous experiance i've ever had.  When you've only got 8 vs. 8 how the hell can you start the match before everybody has loaded in?  I was on a map (wetlands) where there was already a tank, apc and helicopter on our main base's doorstep before I'd even gotten into the game.  Needless to say I picked up 5 quick deaths before I could sneeze.  tried to run for the tow...boom!  tried to run for the buggy to get out of dodge...boom!  anti tank...boom!

What a moronic situation!  Think about it.  If you want to really rack up some gold medals then all you need is a cpu that loads up faster than the rest.  Just play 16 player maps that go only one round per map.  Grab the tank, quickly take the first flag and then pound away at the other team's base...game over.

the cpu isn' t the key, kk i have an P4 560 HT 3,6;....but the real key is a big RAM if u have about 2048MB like me or more so u r one of the first players on the map...

I've only got 512MB of RAM but I nearly always seem to be one of the first on any map.

I like the 16 player maps. I prefer the city maps i.e. Sharqi and Karkand. A good team is the key to win. As always I agree that you have to be quick or you be dead, just as Iron Maiden says!

The odd 16 player map can be great on a server higher than 16 to be thrown in between the 32 man sizes... every so often its fun too have a manic super fast game thats different to the general rate of play.

For the longest time I could never understand why nobody used tactics or teamwork.  I thought it was due to immaturity or just going for ribbons and medals.  So I gave up on teamwork a long time ago.  While those reasons may be part of the reason, I beleive it is because the rounds do not last long enough.  I am talking about a full 64 player map.  You can go on a 16 player server that lasts for a long time, but what is the point of that?  I just wish a 64 player server with 64 player maps could last at least 1 hour on average.

A really fast hard drive like a 10000rpm WD Raptor probably helps the most when trying to improve load up times. I also don't think Windows XP supports 4 gb of ram, 3gb yes, but I think you might have problems with 4. The new Windows Vista will be able to handle it no problem though.

XP should handle 4GB with no problems... just nothing above that unless you're using 64bit edition.

Or you put in a flag such as \SAE.  Otherwise Windows will not recognize any RAM over 4 GB

Well, in my opinion good servers with 16 player maps are mostly the best servers (and if there like 20-25 players it's awesome). Mostly there's around 4 round/map in this servers so loading times shouldn't be a problem. Sure 1st round is mostly (not always) better for those who have faster computer but so what? They spent maybe lot of money to get that computer so let them enjoy it. And 16 players map don't take even so much time to load. My computer load those maps like in 15 seconds and my computer isn't even good. Also good commander, 1 good squad or even 1 good player can do much things for team which is impossible in biger servers (you have no chance to win round in noob team in big servers). And in fact it really doesn't matter if you come to server in middle of round if you are good player.

16 player maps arent that bad.  If you play on a server that has like 2 or 3 rounds per map then only the first round will have that problem.  Or do what i do and play 24/7 maps most of the time

It is but some motherboards cannot support more than 3GB. I am running an Asus A8N SLI and I have 4GB Ram, XP sees only 3GB.

About the Raptor drive, it's been tested for game load up times. You get better results spending your $$ on 2GB ram, it HELPS alot.

I'll second that. One of my mates has 2 36GB Raptors raided and he is not the fastest one into games, he is up there but those of us using AMD64's with 2Gb of RAM win. For the record he has 2GB of RAM and a P4 3.2GHz.

If you connect to Servers located close to you, don't you load and verify quicker?

I always connect to West Coast servers and seem to be one of the first to jump in a game.

No, what really sucks is when a 64 player server has a 16 player map, the round only last like 3 minutes.
