Ok, my mic used to work perfectly fine in VOIP, now all of a sudden it doesn't.

I've gone through control panel and used the test wizard and it "seems" to work fine in that the sound bar registers noise etc. I take it that BF2 uses whatever mic is set to default in Windows?

I'm at a loss to this, as I've changed/altered nothing on the pc in the last couple of weeks yet all of a sudden the mic doesn't appear to work in game

Ps I've used the search but it doesn't bring much up I'm afraid!

bf2 sometimes likes to change your sound settings make sure that they are stet correctly and that voip is enabled

Sorry, I should have added that VOIP is enabled in the audio options of BF2 but the mic test doesn't register anything, although I'm not sure it did even when the mic worked!!

Check that the BF2 server has VOIP enabled. Some servers have it off.

Also, in your advanced sound options for your mic, make sure you have boost on.

Yup, the server has VOIP enabled, I can hear everyone else but they can't hear me

In advanced settings for my mic (via control panel?) I have a drop down menu labelled "effects" with nothing in it.

Last resort would be re-installing the game, but why would cause me to suddenly not have voice in VOIP??!!!! ARGH!! lol

Well there's plenty of other things that could cause your sound not to work, but try this anyway:

Go into Sounds and Audio Devices in control panel. On the voice tab check that the correct device is selected under Voice Recording and then click the volume button. The "Recording Control" window will appear and under the Mic volume there should be a button that says "Advanced" (If not then go into the options menu and check advanced controls). In the Other Controls sectin, make sure Mic Boost is checked.

I'm assuming you're using XP, and this will only help if the problrm is that your mic is working but you're just too quiet for people to hear you. As it's name suggests Mic Boost boosts your mic. But if there's another problem this might not help.

I have a USB headset, and if for some reason I boot my computer without the headset plugged in Windows will find another device (my onboard sound card that has no mic plugged in) and set that to default. I then have to go into the sound device bit in Control Panel and select the USB headset.

Found the problem

It was in the "Audio" tab, under sound recording device. Somehow it'd changed to something other than my mic :s

Thanks for the help anyways
