8500 & 8600 series graphic cards are not 100% suited for gaming if i remember correctly ... ???

I'd go with the 8600 GT over the 8500.

Okay, and what about the rest of the computer (also look at the price)

Judging from the price I am guessing it is a pre-built machine? Your RAM is a tad slower than most DDR2 rams (800 is standard now really, yours is 667) and of course; the video card won't play Call of Duty 4 on high - but I'd pick the 8600GT over the 8500GT any day.

Can you suggest a good RAM which doesn't cost too much?

No one really cares about RAM speed. I've never noticed it making much difference and in a budget system is not something to worry about at all. The graphics card on the other hand is. Get the 8600, however I'd probably get the cheapest card/by it with just onboard video and get a 7600/7900/X1950 type card which are cheap and should play CoD4 pretty well.

Dont get XP, if you are buying a DX10 video card, what is the point installing it under XP? you can only use DX9, so you might as well get a 7xxx series card.

Man that motherboard is utter shit. This is the best I can do, and its €10 cheaper than what you were going to buy (399 + 70 + 80 = ~ €550) !!
https://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l310/stefanvdd/config2.jpg

Motherboard has 7.1 sound + p35 chipset
Team elite memory is alright as well, 800mhz. (I have 4gb of this memory)
8500GT and 8600 are are made of shit, an 8800GT way better.

XP is fine for an budget machine, and an 8800GT performs even better under windows XP in non-dx10 games. But even with a uber-compter from the year 2150 you aren't going to play crisis on very high.

But one question, don't you also need an PSU and an case to put it all in? Or do you already have those?

Huntkey case: €30
Huntkey 500W PSU: €35

But it's a pre-builded computer, so I can't change it, but can I play CoD4 with it at medium?

Also about the Graphic card, is the 8600 really that bad?

Yes there is a case and stuff.

Well I think it will run COD4 on medium, but you also want a machine that will last longer that 3 months before it's outdated. Yes the 8600 is that bad
This may all cost more than you were at first going to spend, but believe me it's totally worth it. The machine I put together will run CoD4 on high with full AA with ease. I have an E6600, the same memory, and an 8800GT and I can even play crysis on high (1280x1024).

Okay, thank you already.

So the image + case + PSU costs 599€ ...
How do you think the computer can last?

And uhm where is the audio?

audio is onboard the motherboard, 7.1 surround.

edit: I'm not sure about all the connections of that huntkey PSU, I have to look up the specs for it. Maybe it's even better to swap the huntkey for an HKC 565 watts (€38). I've build an PC for a friend of mine with it and it is very good for its money. It has sleeved cables, 2 x 6pins PCI-e connector, 1 x 8 pin, 4 SATA power cables and 7 IDE power cables and last but not least it's very silent. Totally worth the extra 9 euro in my opinion .

Configuration in total:

https://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l310/stefanvdd/config3.jpg

I've also addad an silent casefan (12 db). Airflow is must for computers these days or else you'll have the chance that it will overheat.

Well tell him this computer will last for a long time. I mean he can buy you an cheap computer that can't even play COD4 on high (and cod is already a few months old and isn't an really demanding game), filled with shitty components, and will outdate in like three months... OR he can buy you an good machine that can play every game maxed out (except crysis) and will last for some solid years. And the computer you were going to get, the €400 machine + 8600 + xp was €550 all together, this machine is only €55 more and like 3 times better in gaming performance.

Hehe Rob... it actualy isn't for me, but I'm posting this for a friend (Diyal)

And I'll say it to Diyal, that he has to use these arguments... But he said it would be hard to convince is dad..

Change of plan!

Father will only buy this computer:

Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q6600 (8MB L2-cache, 2.4GHz, 1066Mhz FSB)
Windows Vista Home Premium (inclusive Media center-interface)
Nvidia GeForce 8600 Gt HDMI-attatchment, 256MB DDR2 SDRAM, DirectX 10 and HDCP-support
3072MB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz 64-bits, Dual Channel Memory
500 GB hard disk 7200 tpm, 8MB cache

Total of 699€ ( I think with some extra stuff like mouse,keyboard...)

still a respectable machine, and upwardly mobile in that you can tweak it and get some extra miles out of it.  I would recommend that you get the fastest RAM you can up to 1066 as that equals your FSB.  But father's decree is father's decree.

edit: You may want to consider two smaller drives to the one larger if the cost works out alright.  Reason being is RAID0.

8600 and an 500GB harddisk with 8mb cache. Why is is it so hard to convice your dad?
The motherboard isn't stated, so it is probably shit. A self build PC is ALWAYS better than a prebuild one.
You could build an really nice rig for 700 euro's

Jup, my configuration + quadcore Q6600 instead of core 2 duo + 4 gigs of ram instead of 2 + vista home premium x64  instead of xp = €700 exact

the motherboard I chose(p35, 7.1 audio) > the crappy not mentioned motherboard.
8800GT > 8600  three times
4gigs of 800mhz ram > 3gb 667mhz ram

do I need to go on?

edit: 250GB seagate with 16mb cache HD > 500gb 8MB shitty brand
