I wonder what nvidia will do for the next series. 10800gtx? That sounds dumb.

"GeForce X GTX"
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Me thinks so to, same as what ATI did, 9800 going to X1800 etc.

I thought G100 is the next from the G series to come.

The tech sites seem to call it GT100 or 200, fact, some even state GT100/200 in the title header.  Whatever it is, least we all know its refering to the next chip, the one that is apparantly 'waiting in the wings' for R770.

Bell explains the mystery again. Thanks Martyn.

No it is not some April Fool jokes. VR-Zone has learned that there will be two high end parts from Nvidia to replace the current GeForce 9800 GX2 and 9800 GTX in Q3. These two parts are GeForce 9900 GTX and GeForce 9900 GT based on the new GT200 architecture. GeForce 9800 GX2 and GTX will have a short lifespan since they will be replaced in a couple of months time. Nvidia has positioned GeForce 9900 GTX to replace 9800 GX2 and this gave a clue that a single GT200 card will actually outperform a dual G92 card. Likewise for GeForce 9900 GT, outperforming and replacing 9800 GTX. CJ revealed to us that Nvidia will have a hard time fitting GT200 onto the PCB since the GPU is gonna be large and very power hungry so we can probably assume it is still 65nm based. The PCB for GT200 will be P651.

9900 GX2 sounds kind of...weird though.

It better blow EVERYTHING away.

I bet it will be a little step forward from the 9800GX2 with GDDR4, couple of more transistors and higher clocks, dissapionting really.

Looks like if you want more bang for your buck and you have a SLI motherboard, SLI your old 8800GTX'es 8800GT's and 8800GTS's.

I stepped up from a 8800gts 512mb to the 9800gx2(my card arrived at EVGA today), but it didn't cost me anymore than it would have cost to get another GTS. I figure staying with just the GTS's would be limiting my builds potential(quad sli anyone?).

6 months is a long ways away(if you go by what vr-zone stated), and I will be more than happy to upgrade to even better architecture when that time arrives as well. It just sucks for those with very tight budgets that can't afford to do the same.

Hopefully ATI releases something superior in the next few months. I've never purchased one of their boards.....
