Ok, So I might be getting a 1997 Lumina and it only has a casette player. well, I'm wondering how to replace that caseette player with a cd player, preferably one that goes in the existing slot.

EDIT: Also, anyone got a good, fairly inexpensice in-dash cd player that looks semi cool? also, anyone got a radio of the same specifications?

thanks in advance

Just get one of those things that has a cassette tape on one end and a headphone plug on the other. You pop in the cassette tape and then plug the other end to your walkman or ipod or whatever in its headphone slot and voila! They only cost like $5 to $10, too.

Seriously, he obviously wants a CD player.  Just go to a Bestbuy and ask if they carry an installable player/where to find one.

I do have one and it works great and I love it. Plus I'm old-school and like to make mixtapes too So whenever I'm in the mood I can pop in a CD, or just a cassette.

yeah but the sound quality is enough to make me gag on those.

i'm pretty sure you pretty much just rip the old box out and replace it with a new one that matches the connection heads.

To be honest, the quality is great. It just depends what kind of converter you use. Some are crappy, others are great. I really don't notice anything bad-sounding about them (I admit I'm not a major audiophile, but I can tell when something is ripped in 128 versus 192 or higher).

But that's true. Just buy a player, take out the old one, and match up the new one. Shouldn't be a problem.

so I think I might've found a good one, not sure this is the upper limit of my price range tho. it was on best buy last night, but they took it off much cheeper there. best buy's website said it would fit the lumina so I'm going off of that

don't do install. Its really easy. Sometimes you can even buy adapters from the stock harness.

what I was thinking was if the install would be something like $50+ I'd just have one of my friends help me with it
