That's pretty impressive and awesome! (well from an engineering standpoint).

But I agree with the Tower of Babel analogy. It's only a matter of time before society today falls. Will this solely do us in? No. But we're definitely on the way to destruction. Call me a pessimist all you want, but humans have advanced far too much for our own good.

Until recently (and continuing today), the vast majority of wealth flowing into Middle East countries came from oil. The only reason the rich princes have this money to build huge heylookatuswearetoughshit monuments is due to the price-gouged oil industry. And if you look beyond all the hype, you still see the poor (a large percentage) suffering in shantytowns, biased justice, unfair worker protection, and human rights that are from the stone age; moreso than any other similarly wealthy nation. Culturally and socially they are at least half a century behind other countries, The only thing they going for them is the luck to be living above the largest accessible oil deposit in the world.

agreed. but i honestly wouldn't be surprised if it fails horrendously, considering nothing even close to this height has been built before.

if it does work out ok i'll be pretty impressed.
