So my new G5 mouse came today. And I followed the guide correctly.

Turn on PC, plug in mouse, install software, blah blah blah.

But the mouse doesn't work. I was suspicious when the mouse didn't light up or show any signs of life as soon as I plugged it in.

I reckon it must be broken. Am I doing anything wrong?

A few ideas was that i used a wireless mouse and keyboard of the same wireless receiver, when i plugged G5 in i was just using the keyboard of the reciever and just unplugged the mouse. I doubt thats it, because that should work fine like that. The G5 is most likely broken with the lights/laser not working when plugged in, I just wanted some reassurance, I may be/hope I'm doing something wrong.

Damn Amazon attracting me with their competitive prices, now I will have to wait ages, send it back etc.

Halp.

Try other USB ports, maybe it´s not the mouse but more likely your USB port.

Your first laser mouse ?

In the box there is a little slot with a waferthin battery that goes in a slot on the side of the G5 ...

You're confusing me.

There is no battery/slot or anything.

And to HellHead, my computer recognises the G5 when its plugged in any USB, just doesnt work.

What should I expect? Should it light up and work as soon as it goes in a USB port?

Yeah, normally it should. Plug in the mouse, go into your Systemproperties (might be different in english) -> mouse -> Hardware and see if it listed there. If yes, it´s probably a problem with your mouse.
Another thing could be the wireless Keyboard and mouse problem.

Edit : If you want to be sure, try to plug it into another comp. If it´s not working there it´s most probably broken.

Tried searching a little on the web to help you out but can't find anything special other than trying another USB ...

Its listed in my hardware. When I go in control panel > mouse > hardware tab.

Oh this is terrible.

Hm, like I said, last chance would be to try it out somewhere else.
If that fails too, it´s broken.

But don´t give up. G5 is wonderful once you get it to work.

Edit : Wait a sec, your USB ports are 2.0, right ?

Shouldn't have to be. Hell, not even my tablet needs USB 2.0, and it's a lot more bandwidth-hungry device than any mouse...
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Yeah I've tried it on my sisters laptop and it doesnt work either.

So do you think its broken?

Both computers recognise it, but it just doesnt work. Something like this should just be plug and play, but it isnt for me.

Well, really looks like you had bad luck with this one.
If nobody else has an idea, get a package ready, I would say.

Edit : And next time maybe do what I normally do. Go to a store around, if you buy stuff like that. You maybe pay a few euros more than
online, but if it´s broke you can just give it back and get a new one immidiately,  instead of going through the hassle of sending it
back and waiting for a few weeks to get it replaced.

I'm having the very same problem with the G9 I just bought. Windows recognizes that it's there under the device manager, but the mouse doesn't work at all. It does, however, work on three other computers that I've hooked it up too without problem. I've done everything. Reinstalled the drivers, updated the BIOS, wiped every ounce of Logitech software and registry keys from my system, repaired all my system32 files that may have been damaged, etc. etc. etc. I've actually run out of things to try short of reinstalling the entire OS. I've posted on multiple forums and nobody knows anything. Logitechs entire comment about the problem is, and I quote; "Contact your computer manufacturer and update your USB drivers." Bastards. If someone has any idea how to fix this, let me know. Or if anyone has any idea where the actual drivers are installed for Setpoint 5.0. That's the last thing I can think to try is take the drivers and install them all manually.
