My Software update program just informed me there were three new updates available for download for my Mac. Two were standard security updates and the third was a Safari update. The two security updates downloaded fine but the Safari one did not download properly and cancelled download, my computer then rebooted as usual.

After rebooting I went to see about attempting the Safari update again but found that Safari now will not launch and to my horror neither will Installer, Mail, Flash, iTunes, Skype or Yahoo Messenger.

I've looked around online to find out what's going on and many others seem to be having similar problems. This is bad news for me as I'm in the middle of my final project for college and it's based almost entirely in Flash, not to mention most of my sites for research are in my Safari bookmarks. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? I've tried downloading Safari again through Firefox but I can't install the download because, like I say, Installer won't launch.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

It just works.

[edit: sorry, I had to...

Send Bertster7 a PM. He works on those machines more than I do.]

sounds like you might need a reformat.

Truth. I hate all the commercials that try to make you think Macs do not crash, and they are better than PCs.
I have worked on some nice macs, and I have worked on some shitty macs. Mostly the shitty ones. They crash a lot and have tons of bugs. Apple would have you believe that bugs do not exist in Macs, that is why I hate them, they overcharge you for the name and the theory that Macs do not crash, but I see it happen everyday.

Truth be told this is the first ever major problem I've had with a Mac. The annoying thing is it's not like I've downloaded some dodgy program from the web, it was an official update from Safari (the Mac's own internet browser) downloaded through the Software Update application.

I wouldn't put it past Mac to do this on purpose to make people have to upgrade to the latest OS or something, they are cunts like that. They are often very cynical in how they release stuff to the public, they are renowned for releasing products before all the bugs have been worked out of them, some people say you should never buy a new Mac product in the first 6 months of sale.

There is: one sells hardware at immense prices, the other software.

Are you trying to claim Apple software is cheap? Leopard is more expensive than Vista Home Premium....
