I love playing BF2, but am wondering the future of it. I've beem playing on-line gaming for about 7 years, and never in my life have I seen a patch (that is ment to improove) make the entire game worse.

I don't know if it's real tough to make a game like BF2 with stats and, all that relyable or what? I just got through reading the "knowen issues" list for this patch and was amazed with the problems. Its as if it's in the pre-stages before the release or somthing.

Alot of people are way in to this game, and have alot of time in it, so I hope the next fix, will be a fix, and not make it worse than it is now. If the next patch is worse than 1.2, I don't know... I think making vehicel hit points, and changing major things in the game was to much all at once.

The idea of BF2 is awsome, we just need some relyable programing to back it up.

im with you
i generally oppose the idea of patches all together because more often than not the contain more problems than solutions. and unfortunately the nature of patches is that the community is so shortsighted and so unable to learn from the past and every other online fps ever that they clammor and clammor and clammor for the patch and they not only clammor for it but usually for ridiculous features or changes to gameplay instead of fixing bugs, and the idea of fixing bugs get swept aside (this patch is a great example). then when the developer tries to take it's time and postpones release there is a huge negative outcry from the community because there was a delay, so the developer inevitably releases it way too early without having it properly tested (again this patch is a great example). if the patch isn't prioritized in this way it's going to suck: #1 fix bugs. #2 add features. #3 adjust for better balance. #4 (distant #4 mind you) increase realism.

It better not be doomed, I have some stock in Electronic Arts and the profit I make of it is my beer money.

1.21 apparently a "fix" patch to fix the patch that was meant to fix the previous patch..... Oh, and Euroforce has been delayed for 1.21 I heard (on these forums...)...

1.21 is also meant to be on the way soon...

it is possible to make a game bug free, but the thing is that it takes a lot of time. and time = money. so if they took all that time to make a game completely bug free they would have to make the game cost a lot.

People complain about delays because somebody decided to set a date. In this buisness there are almost always a delay of some kind its almost expected.

I do like to think that with each iteration they learn something new. I donno about you but BFV wasn't as much a success as 1942. I never bought the game but I borrowed it for a few weeks and could never really get into the game. Vietnam just isn't meant for gaming. So what did they do, alot of the BF2 gameplay is similar to 1942. Alot of the maps are like it. MEC maps are more insired by 1942 and PLA is more BFV. Theres a healthy mix in there.

There can always be improvements that need to be made, one just wonders how long they support BF2 until they shift to the next one in the line.

Ferret has a point, I do ignore the bugs mostly...

Just hate that the transport choppers were nerfed so much...

I WISH it would go back exactly like 1942 and do away with ranking points! maybe give medals secretly but not to know when you get them, like if you work really good as a team player for x number of hours and blah blah blah, then you get a medal in an email or some crap. <i dunno thats kinda gay, but i think you get my point, nobody really plays as a team anymore. vietnam was fun, 42 was awsome and bf2 is by far way better than any "online FPS" except for the points system it brings so much drama with it all. people padding, kicking for getting pwned, all kinds of BS.

Some games end up with a crappy patch right before the developer goes out of business or ceases to make money off that game title and find more profitable things to do than supporting it. I don't think BF2 is quite there yet, with 2 booster packs in the pipe.

Let's hope they shift the emphasis from "the community's wish-list" to bug-fixing an *testing*.
Sure it's neat to dream up a lot of new features/tweaks/nerfs on a forum,
but be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

I wolud rather have the developers removing bugs/exploits/glitches and stay responsible for their own original vision of what the game should be, than a constant see-saw of wishes come true.

yeah, get unlocks at different times, but working for them, i would like to see medals for working with YOUR squad and everyone in the squad assists in capping a flag and if they do it like 10 times a round you get a badge, and many other things you could do as a TEAM/SQUAD, now that would be awsome.
let the tank whores take the tanks and the jets do the bombing. if everyone is in a squad, with a different kit, a medic can revive an engineer that lays mines and fixes the humvee that carries the AT that blows up the apc that was Spotted by the sniper who was giving cover fire for the support guy that was supplying everyone including the assault guy who was well nobody really knows what they do besides noobtube, and the spec ops was doing something as well

NOW that would be sweet. i mean if the medic dies nobody ever picks up the bag, revives him and now you are medic and he is support that can resupply you! i dont get why we have such an awsome game and nobody plays it like they should, and why not? POINTS, i hear if you get more than the next guy you get to marry a super hot horny chick that will cater to all of your needs !

i think bf2 will be doomed if they making changes to the game because certain people keep complaining about things. i mean fixing bugs and stuff is great but fixing other aspects of the game because a few people say that its hard to kill with this or hard to kill with that is a bunch of crap. its gonna be like COH (city of heros) all over again. everyone loved that game. no one had no problems with anything. then they came out with PVP (player vs player)and all of a sudden people are saying this type is to strong that move is to powerful. so what did the developers do. they nerfed and nerfed and nerfed even more. i dont play that game anymore cause its so ridiculous now. as fun as PVP was i wish they left it out because thats all people did was whine whine whine. and so every patch that came out nerfed this and nerfed that. every patch. im jus hoping bf2 wont become like coh. other wise ill have to look for a new game to play

Drums* Dudta duta ta ta tat "you've been recommended for an award" *Show picture of the "whore medalion"

In all seriousness though. They one -uped 1942 by making the squads part of the game. Theres no physical award you get for being in a good squad or working as a team. Sure you might get to see you under the best squad section. Since alot of people play based on points then might as well use that to your advantage and say gives the player more points if they heal a squadmate vs someotherguy on your team.

But the bugs/glitches are more important of a fix. Getting into buildings that arn't meant to be in and fixes of fixes should hold the priority.

they announced that they are working on it and it's all we can hope for at the moment... but I'd not say the game is doomed because of those bugs.
I do think as well that the developers are in some kind of a dilemma. everyone in sort of a 'dynamic job' (with moving deadlines and stuff) knows that sometimes people are too enthusiastic, when it comes to deadlines and stuff. once they notice that they cant keep the deadline, they try to delay it but then the whole 'community' goes crazy and starts screaming at them...
if people would just be a tad bit more patient, there would be less bugs after a new patch
but I also think it's vital not to claim that the game is doomed and that all guys there are assholes and whatnots... I think it is quite not healthy for your motivation, if people keep screaming and cursing at you..

so all in all - sit back, relax and wait for the fixes - this games is not doomed as long as people play it (and I'm not going to stop )

The game has to go on. I dont see anybody reaching general for a while. Isnt so cool that the top ranked players now have to play something other than Karkand to advance to General.

If anyones the chopper whore around here, its me.

And I think bf2 will be going strong for a while yet. For every 1 person that doesnt like the new patch, there are 5 that dont mind the insane new bugs and enjoy the modifications that EA/Dice has made. Just read the threads around here, there are a few sane, reasonable people who say things like "well I'm glad people cant dolphin dive any more, but it would be nice if the PKM wasn't a fully automatic sniper rifle." or "It's a good thing AA is better now, but something about the way missiles fly sideways, corkscrew, change directions instantly and sit inside oil flames really annoys me." And then theres posts that go something like "HAHA you N00bz0rs get used to it because Im goin to pwnzor j00!" Sadly the latter seem to be in the majority.

So I dont think bf2 is on the decline. The game might lose some players because of the patches, but there are plenty more who don't care, and new players join every day.

tee hee.

yeh this patch has kinda ruined the game and the fact that they keep giving us realease dates and then pushing them bak, annoys me even more. i am happy tho that they are at least "trying" to fix some of the bugs in 1.2. i actually dont mind 1.2 as a patch, its just the bugs that i h8. i am an all round player, i like infantry combat, vehicle combat and air combat and i personally find that it is better to play after the patch, except for the bugs weakening infantry combat. so EA better fix it or i may just hav to get angry.
