Communist always like to think they can give people a little freedom.

I allways thought Castro had kept Cuba in a dirtpoor dictatureship for his hole life. Terrible waste of human resources when Your think of the happy dancing Cubans. But maybe things have changed to the better.

I wouldn't regard any place that places retrictions on freedom of speech and freedom of movement as a 'great place'. Cuba is only great because of the people, the history, the music, the culture, the cigars, the rum, the architecture and the community spirit of common struggle and sharing and emphasis on values rather than material wealth. It is unfortunate that the popular revolution of the people ended up so flawed.

On another note: watch this space for Cuba becoming the next China. Next they'll allow foreign enterprises to set up shop and the gulf in living standard and wages will ensure that there will be a shitload of money to be made. I'm buying property there the minute it becomes available.

Sorry, but any restriction is a violation to your freedom even if they deny you the right to watch shitty movies from anywhere.  Castro did a good job providing a good education and health system for everyone, but he was a dick when it comes to freedoms.
