Please Help! [Converting Video to Audio]

I have a few video files, all of them being MPG type video files, and I was wondering how I might convert them to a sound file that I can burn onto a CD (I guess mp3 is the kind of sound file I'm looking for, or whatever the general sound file type is).

Anyways, karma for your help, and I imagine you'll be referencing software. If so, please PM a link so that I may obtain it, as cash is nonexistent for purchasing any new software. Thanks so much!

1. Open video file (in whatever player you want)

2. Open Audacity

3. Set Audacity Source (or whatever the hell it's called) to Stereo Mix (or whatever, it's the 2-chanel audio out from your computer)

4. Press Pay/Record

5. ????

6. Profit!

Sony Vegas - Import video - render as mp3 - done, it'd take about 20 secs to do an hour long video.

Use a converter called super, convert to a sound format, ie. wma or .mp3, convert and it'll leave you with the audio.

I'm doing some volunteer work for the local high school music department (it's in Michigan) - they wanted to take videos of their performances and convert them to sound files to be used as background music for a picture slideshow made of pictures from their trip to Orlando, Florida (namely the entirety that is DisneyWorld and the surrounding parks) for a week.

Wait, now you've given me, a *slightly* indecisive person, two excellent choices: Sony Vegas and Super. Is this true that Super is greater than Sony Vegas? Nonetheless, I guess I'll DL Vegas and Super and try them both out. Thanks for all your help. Hell, all who've posted above me, have a karma for your efforts!
