Tell me how your candidate is going to fix the problems facing America.  Explain to me the vision you see.

1.  How will the Illegal Immigration problem be addressed and fixed by your candidate?

2.  How will the short comings of Education be addressed and fixed by your candidate?

3.  How will the federal deficit be address by your candidate?

4. Social Security?

5.  Energy?

6.  Job Creation?

7.  National Security?


Please answer this questions and keep a list and see how right you were if your candidate gets elected.  But yes, I want to see what the sheeple think they will do.

I know I thought the Republicans would reform the education system with a program that included a strong federal voucher program.  They could have, they ran on it, they had the house, senate, and presidency.  I got Ted Kennedy cowriting Every Child Left Behind with the teacher's Union.  This was my eye opener, what will it take for you?

What's particularly aggravating for me is that I barely agree with any of the major candidates.  I took a vote match survey at ontheissues.org,, and even when including the minor candidates, the most compatible candidates to my views were only 64% in line with me.  Of the major candidates, I think I only agreed with Hillary and Obama about half of the time, while I agreed with McCain about 25% of the time.

I might as well make my own party, but I don't have the money for it...

Here's what my ideal candidate's positions would be...

1. virtual fence, deportations, and fining/imprisonment of employers of illegals.  Make the legal citizenship process cheaper, shorter, and easier so that more people would actually use it.

2. Keep the feds out of education, but decrease federal spending and taxation so that citizens have more ability to pay for their own education or more ability to invest in state-funded education as they see fit.

3. Balance the budget by leaving Iraq, streamlining the military bureaucracy, and slowly phasing out Social Security.

4. See #3 -- privatize and phase it out

5. End all government subsidies and tax breaks for the oil industry.  Create new tax breaks for alternative energy research and production.

6. In general, just make it harder for businesses to outsource labor.

7. Improve border security, port security, and airport security through technologies like those machines they use in British airports now that can see through clothing but give better details than X-rays (to determine if someone is carrying a bomb or weapon).  Also, implement a biometric based National ID.

If I'm not mistaken, no candidate has that combination of views....

Change.  That's how they'll do it.  Change.

No one actually has any plans, and if they do, it'd be political suicide to say anything about it.  They have to try to stay as middle of the road as they can, that's what's so fucked about elections in this country; or I guess any country really.  We won't really know what candidates plan to do (and actually do) until one of them is actually in the white house

I'll just talk about #4.  Along with Social Security will also come the largest transfer of wealth from the baby boomers to the next generation.  So those receiving the money actually will be paying for it with inheritance.  I see the government taken a few more bucks on estate tax for a little while.

Um, Pug, you do realize the estate tax (or "death" tax) has been repealed.  There is no federal estate tax, although I'd imagine several states still have them.

I would be shocked if New York didn't have an estate tax.  They even charge a "use tax" for goods bought out of state (though, that may be common.  I don't pay taxes in other states.)

I took the same quiz and scored 43% as my most common. Interestingly enough, the three remaining candidates (Hildog, Obama, McCain) topped my list.

Umm, no - you are talking about the 2001 Tax Act being repealed, which means no tax in 2010.  Because the Tax Act was temporary, the old tax code goes back into effect.

The amount to exclude from the taxable estate is what you are talking about, but in 2010, NO TAX is due.  So if you want to get the most of your inheritance, encourage your parents to die in 2010.

In 2008 the exclusion is $2M, 2009 = $3.5M.
2010 = exclusion is EVERYTHING
2011 and on = $1M (back to the old system)

The 2001 Tax Act will not be repealed, so Congress has to do something in 2011 to change the exclusion amount.  And it's gonna happen.

1.  How will the Illegal Immigration problem be addressed and fixed by your candidate? No amnesty for illegals. Physical security of our borders. No social programs for illegals, and the end to birth right citizenship.

2.  How will the short comings of Education be addressed and fixed by your candidate? Abolish the department of public education, and less regulation.

3.  How will the federal deficit be address by your candidate? Abolish wasteful departments and entitlements we can't afford, veto wasteful spending bills. Basically downside government.

4.  Social Security? Create a trust-fund for it, but eventually phase it out by allowing people to opt out of it, and letting individuals have more freedom over their retirement plans.

5.  Energy? No subsidies for corn ethanol, let the market decide the best alternative fuel, stop monetary inflation which in turn makes energy more expensive.

6.  Job Creation? Free Markets: less taxes, less regulation, no artificial stimulation from the Fed. We're Americans, we're we the first to truly understand the concept "make money".

7.  National Security? Stop being the world police, bring our forces home, stay out of internal affairs of other countries. No slaying dragons.

He doesn't have a chance, but I'm not voting for any of those other candidates... they won't fix the problem, no matter how much they preach "change".

1.  How will the Illegal Immigration problem be addressed and fixed by your candidate?  I think we need to solve poverty in central america.  In the meantime, unfortunately I think we got to stop giving away the farm - nothing should be free.  I also think this has to be a state issue and not a national issue.  Plus I think the government should invest in the economy - create more manufacturing-like jobs.

2.  How will the short comings of Education be addressed and fixed by your candidate?  I think this has to be a state issue again. 

3.  How will the federal deficit be address by your candidate?  Address it by addressing the economy.

4. Social Security?  Not worried about this.

5.  Energy?  Make people go green.  A few tax incentives don't really do it.  For instance, the hybrid car stuff is stupid - the car companies put a premium on a hybrid, so you have to drive it for the rest of your life before you reach the breakeven point.

6.  Job Creation?  The idea of creating jobs to "green up" the environment is a good idea.  Investment in manufacturing too.

7.  National Security? I think we're ok in that department.

I also believe we need to consider taxing internet transactions more heavily, since more people are buying stuff online.  Small online kiosks can compete with large storefronts now...so either you begin taxing the crap out of the small guy or you tax the consumer.

Damn it...  I should've looked that up. Now that I have, it's pretty confusing...   Anyway, thanks for correcting me on that.  I'm assuming you're an accountant, right?  CPA?   I'm going into that field eventually, but I've got a long road ahead of me....

yep.  unfortunately i specialize in estate planning (amongst other things)...
