I have a
amd 3800+ X2 dual core
1200 gig of ram
geforce 5500 fx oc 256mb pci

Problem is the ram is one 512 pc3200 , one 512 pc2700 , and one 256 pc2100

I run at low settings and still get lag here and there but its playable

Is it my video card that is the problem or is it the different ram i have in it or is it both.

I have a new motherboard and the chip is new too im just trying to figure out what to upgrade next.
I plan on getting 2x 1024 pc3200 ram here soon...(ditch the lower then pc3200 and have 2560 mb)
Will this improve performance greatly or do i have to fit a video card in the budget too?

I run an AMD 64 4000 with an Nvidia 7800GTX and just upgraded to 2gig of PC3200 RAM from 1gig.

The extra gig of RAM makes a huge difference for loading maps and alt-tabing out. BF2 runs perfectly now on full settings.

For your case i'd suggest upping the vid card to at least a 6800 if you want to run on high settings. If you want to keep it on low, just upgrade the ram and see how it does.

Colfax,

Dude, you have a kick'n CPU, but your memory and video card are well.... not so kick'n...

I'm not sure if you can run with only 512... I really doubt it... I believe that the minimum requirements are at lease 1GB...

You said you are getting 2GB of 3200 memory, that will help a lot, but your video card should be upgraded as well...  I would suggest getting a 6800something card, like Havazn said, but if you can afford it, splurge and get a 7800something...

If you indeed get those upgrades, you should have a really kick'n system... You should be able to run your system at least at medium settings if not at high...
