The basic comand and basic explosives are not pre-requisites for any rank.
The veteran badges are not pre-requisites for any rank.

Why?

Should all the basic badges ( including Command/Explosives) be a pre-requisite for officerdom?
Should all the veteran badges be a pre-requisite for field grade officerdom?

It would make sense since expert badges are a pre-requisite for general officerdom.
(Except the missing Command/Explosives badges)
(I find it disturbing that you don't need a Command badge of any kind before becoming a general)

Company grade officers: 2Lt, 1Lt, Cpt
Field grade: Major, LtC, Col
General: doh

I agree.  You should need Command to even get First Sergeant.  Right?  I agree with you man 100%

yeh i agree...an idea like yours would be cool....

for example, to become a 2nd Lt you need all veteran combat badges.....and maybe for major u need all veteran plus veteran command, pistol, knife...

something like that!

nice post

And as someone pointed out in another thread
the brigadier general and major general badges requirements should be swapped.

You almost certainly will have the expert combat badges WAY before the expert vehicule badges. ( the time 'in-vehicule' thingy)

So once you get all the expert vehicule badges you will be promoted 2 grades. Which is TARFU a la EA.

No
I think of the Basic Command badge as being an indication of officer material. So the basic Command required for the 2Lt.

However maybe they should make it  alittle harder to get by tieing (sp?) it into win/loss or a before 2x score or something.

Veteran Command as an indication of large formation officer material (ie field grade). And the Expert Command an indication of theater command potential (ie general.)

However the basic Explosives for 1st Sgt or Sgt. Major?
veteran explosive?
expert explosive?

Wow, getting veteran explosives for me isnt going well since the new patch.  I couldnt get it, you cant toss C4 over things anymore which is my biggest problem. I guess I just have to use claymores like every other noob that plays out there.

Ok, so, I see what you are saying.  I do have my Veteran Command badge.  It is just hard for me to get my pistol badge and my knife badge.  Just when I am about to kill my 5th or 7th person.  Bam the game is over.

Sucks but oh well, I will keep trying.

I love the idea though.

Maybe it shouldn't be ALL veteran bages for officer ranks but a certain number of them. I like jacks of all trades - they are generally good players but that doesn't necessarily mean the are good teamplayers.
If you play in a regular squad you will most certainly have an asigned duty (with a backup duty for situation changes) - the kit you are most proficient with and therfore are the best help to your squad. I - for example - am my squads desiganted (leader)/Medic1/AT2. I spent most time in these kits and play  other kits if the situation requires it or if I play on my own.

Maybe they could introduce new medals for some combinations of badges and ranks. Like "Expert Infiltrator" with Expert Spec Ops Combat + Expert Explosives + 500 Kills with C4 and a SpecOps K ratio of 1.5. Similar designs for other classes (e.g. "Field surgeon": Veteran Medic combat + Veteran First aid + 1000 heals + 1000 revives + 500 Kills as a Medic..)

Commander basic should be a prerequisit for Officer ranks though. So there is a proof that the know what is going on on the battlefield in higher levels than squad. A 2ndLt without Basic Command looks stupid.
Other badges are just strange: Knife badges are funny to get (so i hear) but do they enforce realistic cooperative teamplay? I think not. Runnign aroudn on your own and knifing every unsuspecting victim doesn't sound to cooperative exept the ticket reduction for the enemy. Why use a knife when you can shoot him from long range? So that the enemy has got time to kill your teammates while you sneak up to him?
