You're going to have to explain that one a little further.  All I was saying is that most thieves demand cash.  The few willing and able to do something like identity theft are not usually the thuggish violent types.
You speak of the current situation. I'm saying you enhance the need to commit a violent act in order to achieve the goal of theft when the desire is to obtain biometric information. I've got a problem with making the human body a tool.

Well yeah...  anything's possible.  But your argument against a National ID earlier in this thread was based on the difficulty of getting enough info to forge multiple forms of identification.  With a biometric ID, this becomes even more difficult, because the card would have information on it that is very difficult to forge like fingerprints, retinas, or facial algorithms.
True, but the trade off isn't worth it. http://gizmodo.com/373829/german-hacker … metric-ids

Well...  I guess the question I have left is...  how are we going to heighten our security in times like these without a more advanced means of identification?...

I got a great idea!, Why don't we actually punish our criminals harsh enough to make criminal behavior not worth the risk, and the seond some ACLU lawyer starts screaming about a prisoners rights, he gets tossed in with him.

Guys... if you get killed by some mugger, I don't think ID theft will be much of a concern to you.

"What's this? Jackson, get over here!"
"What is it Thurston?"
"This man here died 4 weeks ago... yet he just bought some $1000 item from Best Buy"
"By god Thurston... the dead are now among the living"

Sure, again...  I agree.  I still don't see why this is a valid argument against biometric IDs.
Because I would rather have my personal information locked up in a safe or a safety deposit box, rather than my arm.

Yeah, that way, whenever someone steals something, they're willing to kill multiple people just to avoid getting caught, since the death penalty might be on the table....   /facepalm

There is absolutely NO JUSTIFICATION to issue "National ID cards" . . . . NONE!

We have passports, we have drivers licenses, we DONT need all our personal info divulged onto a "national id"! That is such an invasion of privacy it makes me want to spit!

I dont want our government to know all about me on a single card! I dont want my rap sheet, blood type, birth certificate etc. on one government issued card! Are you fucking kidding me? They might as well tatoo bar codes behind our necks and scan us wherever we go! I will NEVER vote for such an idea to be brought to fruition NEVER!

I have never understood why there is no federal system of ID in the US. I mean, you have passports, but those are only mandatory for those who wish to travel abroad, aren't they ?

I mean, do you seriously have to carry around your SS card, birth certificate and driver's license, just in case the fed's want an ID ?

I have learned from CSI that driver's licenses are most commonly used to identity yourself, btu are you telling me that there is no federal document for that ( apart from the passport ) ?

States grant the right to drive, so they issue the licenses.  The feds issue passports.  I don't see a need for the feds to issue a separate ID card.

And no, I do not carry my SS card or birth certificate.  Both of those were required for me to get my driver's license though.

Why not?

Do you require ID?

If so then a passport would be very handy for that.

I have a drivers license.  In order to get that, you need your social security card and birth certificate.

Then why have a national ID card?

If anyone really wants/needs a general purpose form of ID recognised internationally - they should just get a passport.

I can't imagine not having a passport. I often carry mine with me in case I suddenly decide to go to another country (spontaneous trips to Paris earn serious brownie points with the ladies ).

I have never had a passport, and really do not plan on getting one.  I'd rather have a national ID.

How can you not have a passport? How can you go to other countries without one, or on an airport
