I've only shot a .50 rifle a few times and have watched them being fired plenty just because it's an awesome thing and people flock to them in awe. I love guns (as pieces of technology mostly) and the 50 cal is about as cool as you can get. I was at a range shooting my 91/30 and a guy next to me with his garand in 30-06 was setting off a car alarm now and then...then some guy goes way down to the end of the rifle range, bolts his behemoth to the table, and then he starts setting off the car alarms in the parking lot. We go down to drool at his AR50, a beautiful bright scope viewing his little 1" groups at 100 yards, and his hand packed .50 cartridges ($3 a shot reloaded, or $5 retail), and his 1lb trigger. Friendly as he was, he let us shoot it. Standing behind the shooter gives you a nice chest cavitation experience, but shooting it shakes your facial cavity as well as your chest. Pulling the long bolt back gives you the view of the chamber and lets you know you aren't playing with your average .308 cartridge...it's like a weapon just holding that bullet in your hand. The plumes of smoke that swirl up on each side of the barrel into their little mini-dirt devils alone is enough to earn your respect and reverence.
Shooting it is much better than watching it on military channel! lol

it's the ice pick on the left.
